Most seriel killers prefer more personal means, such as stabbing, slashing, bludgening, or my personal favorite......strangulation. Whoever thought THAT is a good idea must have been nuts. Oh wait....lol...they are!

Not really, just as many use guns as they do other means, they sometimes use guns, sometimes use knives, sometimes use strangulation, its not like they are really more likely to use one thing over another. I mean percentage wise, guns are lowly, but usually unless the weapon of choice is their signature, they will use whatever means needed to kill their victim.

Yeah, although I believe it is sometimes necessary, what would you consider vigilantism? I consider it to be even as little as assaulting someone who is attacking another person.

A lot of times serial killers can be determined by signature, which if the signature isn't the same then it isn't the same killer, which would thus mean it isn't a serial killer, or it could mean that it's several serial killers at work in the same area, although with highway robbery it's almost always just someone trying to get money quickly and easily. So more than likely they aren't serial killers

Ironically, Nottingham has a reputation (or did have a few years ago) for having a gun problem approaching that of the US.

I consider it to be what it is - private citizens acting as judge and jury and, after also taking it upon themselves to enforce a self-made sentence, often executioner. It's got nothing to do with using force to defend someone; it's about trying a "suspect" (who often doesn't have enough evidence against him to qualify as such) on a drumhead without recourse to pesky things like the actual law enforcement services or judicial services.

Exactly my point. If a profiler can positively ID the killer based on the modus operandi, then the killing isn't unsolved. If it is unsolved, then it can't reliably be described positively as a serial killing.

Signiture, not Modus Operendi, just a peeve of mine.

But yes, if a single person can be identified as the killer based on how they kill then it isn't unsolved, just untried. Such as several killers have just disappeared off the map and could not be caught, this doesn't mean it's unsolved.
