If you spend 25 seconds in the pit you'll be left in the dust. An average efficient pit stop that consists of the changing of all four tires and a full tank of fuel can take anywhere between 13 and 15 seconds. And the amount of pit stops during a race vary because of numerous factors -- race length, caution flags, fuel mileage, tire wear and pit strategy to name a few. There are a total of 7 men working on the car, plus over the wall crew. Sometime they'll be allowed an eigth man, not counting the NASCAR official.IanKennedy wrote:You can change all four tyres on an F1 car in under 25 seconds. It takes longer to get fuel into the car. Changing less tyres still takes the same amount of time, they are all done at the same time.

Is that track to track or time stopped. If it's the former that pretty good. If it's the latter then it's utterly pathetic by F1 standards. F1 pit crews use a dozen or more people (which demonstrates the skill of those involved to coordinate the actions of so many in such a small area), and a decent stop takes about 6-7 seconds (stopped).ChakatBlackstar wrote:If you spend 25 seconds in the pit you'll be left in the dust. That's nuts. How do you get that many people in there without having more accidents? And why would you even need that many people?Captain Seafort wrote:Is that track to track or time stopped. You need
1)Jackman
2)Rear tire changer
3)rear tire carrier
4)front tire changer
5)front tire carrier
6)Catch can man
7)gas can man
other then that you have over the wall crew and the NASCAR official. Sometimes an eigth man is allowed to clean the windsheild or assist the driver.
Who else would you need?

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
Off the top of my head.
1) Lollipop man
2) & 3) Front and rear jacks
4) & 5) Refuelling rig
Each wheel would have:
1) Wheel nut gun
2) Removes old tire
3) Rolls in new tire
Total: 17

Front and rear jacks? Jacks go to the side silly. And you'd have to synchinize lift. And what's a refueling rig?Captain Seafort wrote:Off the top of my head.

I wasn't joking. Bike racing is superior to NASCAR...not very hard to understand.ChakatBlackstar wrote:Well...uh...ya...I don't get the jokeme,myself and I wrote:Bike Racing > NASCAR

Not in F1 they don't.ChakatBlackstar wrote:Front and rear jacks? Jacks go to the side silly.
Why? You're not stressing anything - the front jack would pivot the car on the rear wheels, and vice versa. And you'd have to synchinize lift.
A big hose that's used to refuel the car.And what's a refueling rig?
So you can see what I'm talking about: an F1 pit stop.

Looks complicated. And how can you tell them apart from that camara angle? Would make going over the tapes more difficult. And the hose is overkill. Just get a gas can with enough fuel and pour it on in. Much less complex then a rig like thatCaptain Seafort wrote:A big hose that's used to refuel the car.And what's a refueling rig?

Easy - just count the number of logos on the overalls.ChakatBlackstar wrote:And how can you tell them apart from that camara angle?
You obviously know f*ck all about F1. That hose pumps in dozens of litres per second. You'd be running back and forth all day trying to fill the thing up with jerrycans. And the hose is overkill. Just get a gas can with enough fuel and pour it on in.

How much can they hold? 24 gallons or so?Captain Seafort wrote:You obviously know f*ck all about F1. That hose pumps in dozens of litres per second. I guess the knowledge that your precious NASCAR uses pressurized gas cans will blow you away then.ChakatBlackstar wrote:

My schedule at work is now 7-4 instead of 11-8. I've sort of been promoted. I think.

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
The quick pit stops in F1 show the superior skill involved.
The fact they can take less damage show they are superior cars since they are so finely tuned.
The fact that driving around the track has to be done just right shows the exacting skill of the drivers.
NASCAR is only watched by people wanting to see crashes.
