Yeah, I'm a bit dubious on that. It's not something I've heard before.

Re: Possible Roles For Fighters
I seem to recall their both in the tech manuals, so not technically canon. I think the TNG Tech Manual says that around the advent of the Ambassador-Class, Impulse Engines were capable of reaching such speeds that time-dilation became a major issue. So rather than constantly resetting clocks everywhere they went, Starfleet ordered that .25c be considered the "full impulse" speed limit to minimize the effects of time-dilation. It's not canon, and I don't want to get into a canon debate, but I'm one of those people who thinks "If it makes sense, accept it as part of the universe" -- and the Tech Manual is as close as we're ever going to get to a run-down on how the GCS works.Rochey wrote:Yeah, I'm a bit dubious on that. It makes some sense really, but mostly in non-combat situations. After all if you're traveling any real distance just go to warp and stop dicking around sub-light.

There was the original one, with the mock battle with the three others connies, and then there's the E-D, which did it like at least once a season. Unless you don't count the holodeck ones, then it only really happened like 2 or 3 times.

Are you including the one where the E-D had a kid in the cargo bay?
Re: Possible Roles For Fighters
I don't remember that one.

Really? I actually found it a fairly decent episode and one that I promote as the appropriate way to use technobabble.Cpl Kendall wrote:The one with the exocomps was pretty painful as well, go go sentient leatherman!

That episode was awful, one of Brannon Braga's worst and he has quite a few.Cpl Kendall wrote:Are you including the one where the E-D had a kid in the cargo bay?
Trata las situaciones estresantes como lo haría 1 perro: si no puedes comértelo o jugar con ello, méate encima y lárgate!!!
Handle stressful situations as a dog would: if you can't eat it or play with it, pee on it and get out of there!!!

Re: Possible Roles For Fighters
So many pages on a topic that should be so simple for everyone...
Carriers in Trek... NO
Fighters in Trek... YES
Fighters are support ships and are worthless unless you have them supporting a capital ship.
No bullshit, end of story.

Re: Possible Roles For Fighters
Maybe we should take on another forum project, the design of a fighter that actually COULD support capital ships without being canon fodder.
