I've been working him over getting him used to the classics. The day he proclaimed that he loved rock then drew a total blank when I asked him about Pantera, Black Sabbath, Guns & Roses etc. was the day we had our first intervention.

I love AIC and when I first heard this song on the radio I couldn't believe it. This new singer does a great job with it.

Hmm... a couple of old standbys, but ones which I think get largely overlooked:

Few people seem to remember the amount old-fashioned r'n'r in Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band:
Turn the Page (no, Metallica's version was a cover.)
Get Out of Denver (no, Blues Traveller's version was a cover.)
Fire Down Below

OK, I don't care if it's pre- or post-weight loss, or long hair or butch-do; chick with Stratocaster + mountain-lion growl = dead sexy. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, the original riot grrrl:
Bad Reputation
I Hate Myself for Loving You
Do You Wanna Touch Me
Cherry Bomb

I know of a large number of the older bands around, but it isn't really to my taste. Guns'n'Roses I enjoy listening to, and Black Sabbath are acceptable. I tend to prefer weaker music from modern bands, yes they are sorta like metal "lite" but its just my personal taste.

It was the Black Sabbath that struck me down, Mikey.

Yeah, that's not really helping. ;)

I'm OK with that - Sabbath is older than I am.

I have a 33gb libary of music from the 50's onward but its all my parent's stuff. my parents never really got into that kind of thing. My dad was into bands such as Genesis, and my mum was a major new romantic/80's child.

So new? My favourite song was written in the late 17th or early 18th century (probably post-1704, given the lyrics).
