A lot of company's have wanted to build a Titanic II, but they rarely get past the planning stage. Not to mention a lot of sailors are superstitious to some extent, and given the Titanic's history many would be against crewing such a ship.

Eh, that's happened before. Back in the mid 18th century, the Admiralty wanted to give a new warship a particular name, and faced an outcry among the lower decks (and a good few of the Admiralty) because the previous ship of that name had sunk with all hands after hitting rocks. In the end the complaints were ignored, the original name was kept, and the ship did alright, "unlucky" name or not.
The name in question was HMS Victory.

The difference is that Titanic is a civie cruise ship, and the project is more likely to listen to popular opinion.

The other angle is that of people who'd want to sail on the ship specifically because it was called
Titanic. Slightly maudlin, and a touch distasteful to take advantage of the tragedy to sell tickets, but there are people who pay for it and companies that would sell.

For some reason, I find that so disturbing on many different levels.

Are they talking about a full interior replica? 'Cause I'd take a cruise on that, no problem.

esteem either.

In theory. Unless they find a reason to push it back again.

The main reason they've moved it so much was the writer's strike, and now they're trying to avoid competition. On the plus side, JJ Abrams has stated that it gives them more time to "perfect the special effects". I assume it'll look amazing at least.
