Because it makes total sense to evaluate a movie before you've seen it.

Which is why I feel really pessimistic about the next ST movie which will be made by Berman and Braga.

You can form an opinion as to whether you might be interested in it based on trailers, but no, it's not reasonable to judge the quality of the movie based solely on trailers. That's why they have movie reviews.

Why? The purpose of a trailer and releasing photos is to stir up interest. If its not stirred than it has failed.

One possibility I am thinking is that we might get the standard "go through training, then go to war" story. Like Full metal jacket, which shows them as they arrive at boot and then shows a few boot scenes before moving on to Vietnam. The movie might give us Kirk enrolling and then spend half an hour or so going through his academy years before showing him on his first mission.

One way to do it would be to show him graduating and going on a mission, with flashbacks to how he got there that show his as the little kid in the trailer, enlisting, doing the KM test, etc.

I dunno, there's all sorts of ways you could do it. I'll wait and see before I judge.

They did a pretty good job of reviving the Batman franchise. Again, my attitude is wait and see.

I didn't say it was good, I said I don't know whether it was good, because it's too early to tell. You are the one who offered an opinion about the movie, and it was baseless.

I can live with that, especially as the Boot scenes in FMJ were the most interesting.

There is more to evaluating a movie than just what gets thrown out to us before release you know. I base part of my opinion on Abrams track record, which I consider medicore at best. Okay, fine.

Given that Lost is my favorite currently running TV show, and Fringe is tied for second, I thought Transformers was awesome, MI:3 was quite cool, and Cloverfield was decent, I'm rather optimistic about Abrams, Orci, and Kurtzman being able to pull this off. I'm waiting to see the movie before I make any opinion of it, but the trailers so far have certainly interested me.

If none of those things are entertaining to you, however, your mileage may vary.

Only reason I didn't care for MI:III was Cruise. I just don't care for his... acting.

As for this movie, I'll wait till I see enough of it to pass judgment.

The trailers didn't turn me off seeing it, personaly. To be honest, I'm rather apathetic towards the whole thing. I've neither been able to work up excitement or disgust at the new film. I'm going to wait 'till it comes out, see it in the cinema (unless it gets a tonne of bad reviews, in which case I'll wait and rent the DVD), and judge the completed work as it is. Unless I see some stuff that seriously shatters my confidence in the quality of the new movie, I'll stil check it out.

Abrams is rather hit-and-miss for me. I like Lost, thought Cloverfield sucked, and am in two minds on Transformers. His involvement doesn't horrify me, but neither does it particularly excite me.
