It's a dead language that most people don't understand.
As has already been pointed out, the Vatican uses a bastardized version of Latin as their official language. Also, it's a language that is used in various scientific areas (where do you think
Homo Sapiens comes from?). Also it's used in legal terms (
pro bono, for example). Also it's a highly historic language, one that most people on the planet will have heard of. Also it's the predecessor of many European languages. English uses plenty of Latin-based words and phrases.
And if your complaint is that many people won't understand it then we should rule out any non-English names. After all, not many people would understand them, either.

Okay, how many people outside of the Vatican know more then a handful of phrases or terms?
Perhaps I should have been more clear. Perhaps something that is not obscure?

Quite a few. Most people well versed in law or science will know quite a few terms and phrases. Then there's plenty of people who study and learn Latin in colleges and universities.

Latin is far from an obscure language. Everyone's heard of it, nearly everyone knows at least a handful of words and terms.

Even if they don't realize it.

Indeed. You can find Latin everywhere. Hell, I believe there's even some Latin writing on dollar bills, right?

E Pluribus Unum springs to mind.

Yep: E Plurbis Unum, "Out of Many, one"

Well, if you want something obscure you should at least translate what it means or what it is so that those of us who don't know latin can judge it fairly.

Here's an idea for you...I know it may be hard BUT you could....and I realize this isn't common, you could LOOK IT UP! Use Google, find an online translator site, set it "Latin-to-English" and click "Translate." Boom, done.

I could, but if he wants us to agree to it, he should be the one convincing us.

Ego reputo ut est nimium nixus pro Blackstar ut utriusque per.

I don't see why I should bother. You've just been given a link to a translator, I'm not going to do everything for you.
USS Rimor and
USS Bellator were my suggestions. Look 'em up, si vos can tracto talis a difficilis negotium.

Well, if you were giving a presentation to someone about something you think he should be doing, and he/she/shi doesn't understand something, would you go "Look it up yourself"? I doubt it.

Yeah, translators are a bit dodgy sometimes.
What I said was "I think that's too much for Blackstar to bother with".

Given that this is
not a presentation and you have the ability to look them up in around ten seconds, I really don't give a damn what you think. I supplied the suggestions, Tsu supplied a way to find out what they mean. That's been more than enough for everyone else here to figure out what they meant.
