What's the latest in people's lives?
Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
Bryan, take my word for it. I've got a touch of experience here. Get on a workline as quick as you can for your own sanity. The kitchen is a good one.

In other news: Ah Finals Week! This is my last week of classes and next week starts final exams. Currently I'm working on one 13 page philosophy paper technically due tomorrow but we're allowed to hand it in Friday (Thank God/Tom Cruise/Flying Spaghetti Monster/Cthulhu. Whomever). I also have 3 other writing assignments due tomorrow for a different class, plus two essay questions to answer for a "take home final" by Monday. If you don't hear from me after this weekend, please say nice things at my funeral?

Once I'm out, I plan on getting back to school for culinary, so kitchen will be my first choice. However, with the degrees I have now, I've been told to expect to be tutoring GED stuff. If I'm looking at more than 2 years, I plan on getting a second masters, or even a wholly different degree, while inside. Can't have too much education, especially with baggage like mine.Mark wrote:Bryan, take my word for it. I've got a touch of experience here. Get on a workline as quick as you can for your own sanity. Thanks everyone for the well wishes!
Don't you hear my call, though you're many years away, don't you hear me calling you?

The new random thread seems to be taking over this thread's job...just you know, with less sense needed.

First off, why is this thread not stickied... It's posted in almost every day, haha.
And second off, on a slightly frightening note, my dad is getting prostate surgery next Tuesday...

This weekend I gotta see if I can get my cheap ass bicycle to work. We bought it from Tesco at a ridiculously low price, and the quality shows. The gears are incredibly stiff and jerky (taking a year to change into gear, and I have to change down twice then up once to go down a gear. The chains also dodgy.
I Want to save up for a decent bike with a proper gear system, preferable thumbshift instead of rotational. And none of this mountain bike 18 gear rubbish, a simple 6 gear bike with a pannier rack. Course, that costs more than the mountain bike.

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
Last week at Rutgers Day, the NJ National Guard had an exhibit featuring a Blackhawk. After climbing around the troop compartment, my daughter (age 5) got into the cockpit. A boy of 8 or 9 got into the co-pilot's seat, and a lieutenant poked his head in to see if the kids had any questions. The boy asked about the controls on slides on the ceiling, just behind the top of the forward windows. My daughter - without ever having seen a helicopter up close or even having discussed their workings - calmly replied that those were what the pilot used to go faster or slower. She was absolutely correct, the boy was pointing at the throttle controls.
In other news, May 2nd was a fun day of seasonal firsts. First sausages on the grill of the season, first Pilsner Urquell (it was close to 90 and humid,) and the first trip to Rich's ice cream - they opened for the year on May 1st, and even yesterday the place was mobbed. People travelled over an hour to be there on opening weekend... and yes, their ice cream is that good.
