My minimum for teaching aims is secondary school. I cannot stand younger children then 11.

Methinks a little refresher on syntax and the difference between some homophones is in order.Reliant121 wrote:I cannot stand younger children then 11.

What is it with this site and teachers? Teachers seem to make up half the board at this point.Reliant121 wrote:My minimum for teaching aims is secondary school. I cannot stand younger children then 11.

Back in ye olde days, perhaps. now, I think there are plenty of non-teachers registered as a member, though the active core and the significant posters still represent a fair number of teachers.

Haha. Weird isn't it? I was a former education major but now switched to a dual major in Political Science and History -- so I'll graduate with a B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in History. I think my aim is to eventually teach University.Sionnach Glic wrote:What is it with this site and teachers? I'd love to teach at a college level but I don't think I'm academically able enough. I mean, I am averaging A's in most of my subjects, but there are some consistent low hitters like some of the sciences where I sit around a C and maths where I am targeted at an A but I really don't think I can get A.

The beautiful thing about teaching University/College is(at least around here), you only need a degree in whatever you actually want to teach. So unless you want to teach Math and Sciences, you should be fineReliant121 wrote:I'd love to teach at a college level but I don't think I'm academically able enough. I think you need a degree to teach in infant and secondary school (plus the teacher training obviously) and I think it's the next degree up (is that a PhD?) to teach in colleges and university.
And no, I'm looking at either English or History.

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
For us, for people looking to teach primary and secondary school, ed training is part of the degree. I was going for an education degree to teach secondary school, I would have graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education, with a concentration in Social Studies. So i'm getting the teacher training and then my concentration is the Social Studies, i.e. History, Government/Civics, what-have-you. For college level/university I think you need a masters to get hired, and I know at my school Professors are required to have their Doctorate within a certain amount of time. However, you can also get teacher certification after graduating with a degree. I.E. When I graduate with my Poli Sci/History Undergraduate degrees (Bachelors) I could return to college and pick up a post-Baccalaureate Teacher certification, it's not a graduate degree but merely the teacher training/certification. Or I could go to graduate school and get a Masters in Education which includes certification.Reliant121 wrote:I think you need a degree to teach in infant and secondary school (plus the teacher training obviously) and I think it's the next degree up (is that a PhD?) to teach in colleges and university.

Ah, unless you take a specialized diploma of some form, as far as I know you have to do your degree THEN specialize in teaching over here.
