Grass can go to hell, as far as I'm concerned. Mowing my parents' garden long ago convinced me quite quickly on the superiority of a driveway and one of those pebble-bed things with a few maintanence-less small plants.
I keep trying to convince the Mrs that we need a double wide driveway, some rock gardens, a zen sand garden, a big shed out back...

I've got a three-car-wide driveway, plus a sand play area out back, and still about 6,000 sq. ft. of grass. Dug out the mower today, gassed her and oiled her, primed her, and Watergate tapes - 18 minutes and nothing. Now I've got to contract with someone to get it done before my boy's first borthday party... in two days.

Damn man...
You know, I think having a solid concrete block from edge to edge of your property should be an acceptable option.

Ouch

We haven't got a spot of grass in the garden. A frigging great koi pond takes most of it (this things bigger in length, width AND depth than my bloody room), then its decking, shingle or a raised rock garden. The previous owner was mad about Japanese style stuff and koi ponds, hence why an award winning pond was in the garden.

Meh, only takes about 20 minutes for me to mow the lawn with a hand-powered mower. Good exercise, too.

Right now, my backyard looks like a jungle. Literally.

turns out is was a bout of genius, no great flaws in it, but it was voted away in favour of another solution a few weeks ago.

PREFACE--this post is NOT to spark a debate. Please remember the forum rules about VS debates.
So, one of the girls at work told me her boyfriend, who is a submariner, has been restricted to the ship for the two weeks they are in port. It seems he was involved in a fistfight over something Sci Fi related. She asked me what the hell it was all about.
It seems that the BF was of the opinion the the X304 from Stargate could engage and defeat a Battlestar (nBSG) without Asguard tech. A co-worker disagreed, saying that without the Asguard weapons the 304 was likely comparable to a smaller ship in the colonial navy and would be easy pickings for a Battlestar.
Thus erupted the fight. Both combatants ended up in sickbay, along with three innocents who tried to break up the fight (including a Senior Chief).
I couldn't help but laugh, and feeling more at ease with these two guys partially responsible for our national security. Unfortunately, she is reconsidering the future of their relationship.

...wow. I know we can get a bit heated in some of our arguments here, but a fist fight? Really?

Wow, and I thought the guys on SDN could over-react about this sort of things.

Went target shooting with my father-in-law today, and didn't even have an "accidents" with the guns. I guess he likes me.
