I want a 410 derranger...
You can get one, you just have to get the double-secret-probation licensing for an "other destructive device" for being a shotty with a barrel <18". Well, not a derringer, but a 4"-bbl. revolver. Why you'd want one is a different question, unless you have a problem with small snakes on your property.

Had he not been as close of a friend as he was I would have decked him for it, because I find it very offensive to equate a woman's presence to being nothing better than a pretty picture. She just is used to it, I don't care how used to it she is, I will talk to him today now that I have calmed down from it for the most part and if someone who isn't that close does it again, I will either ream them out terribly, which I've done before about other things, or I will hit them, depending on how bad my day has been.
I hate guys who can't be anything more than assholes.
And what pisses me of more about this kid specifically is that a couple weeks ago, he apperently told her that he felt like they were brother and sister because of how close they were and all that bullshit. To which, he's even more of an ass. Because to claim that your like someone's sister and then turn around and the best reason to keep them around is boobs, makes you a hypocritical piece of shit.
Ok, I'll step off my soapbox now.
I tend to agree with everything you said. However, you're ignoring two salient points:
1) Maybe he was joking. The joke itself might offend you, but that doesn't make it more than a joke. The fact that he claims to be as close as he is to her -
and she agrees - tend to support this theory.
2) It happened to her, not you. No matter how "right" you are, it will eventually lead to a bad end for all parties involved if you go solving someone else's problems which that person doesn't consider to be problems. If you absolutely can't control yourself until she asks for help, then at least ask her if she want help. Bear in mind that this doesn't mitigate your "rightness" or his "wrongness;" but it's separate advice that may save you AND her drama and bad will.

I should clarify point 1 above. It is eminently possible - in fact, probable in the way I read it - that this guy's use of the term "boobies" was an admittedly crude and banal way of saying that she deserved the chair over a male simply by dint of the fact of being female. While his terminology was thoughtless, his intent was chivalrous... something that is too often missing from the world. While it is possible that he meant, "I want her to sit there because I want to ogle her chest or because I want to have sex with her," it doesn't really seem likely.

Yes, he probably did mean it in that manner, and that's one thing that bothers me, is that that is how he is identifying women, well, most specifically her.
Although, it didn't bother me as much as what someone else decided to do today.
She was talking to an old friend, and the friend didn't immediatly recognize her, so a different guy, one who also claims to be that close to her, she does not agree with that, says "oh, if nothing else, how can you not recognize these". Air groping her boobs. So yeah, I'm much less miffed about the other guy, because, as she said, at least his is an excusable euphemism. The one from this morning was a complete asshole, who got yelled at by both me and the old friend of hers.

Yeah, that second example is just crude and boorish.

I just thought a .357 mag revolver would allow the flexibility to shoot .38 special, .38 spl +P, or .357 mag all from the same gun. Using .410 shotshells from a handgun is only marginally useful for defending my property from very small snakes or clearing rats from a barn at ranges of 10 feet or less - neither of which is something I'd be doing - and completely useless for anything else. I had considered a Taurus 65 or 66, but the word is that they tend to lose some cylinder lock-up causing the action to freeze. With three true cylinder locks (instead of using the ejector rod to help lock the cylinder) and no sideplates, the Rugers are built strong enough that you don't have to think twice about a used one.
Some years ago my father had a .357 and routinely shot rounds down loaded to various .38 specs, it was a hell of alot nicer to shoot that way too. Have you considered something in .45 acp? S&W made a wonderful target model revolver in that round. The heavier bullet at a lower velocity made it quite an effective man stopper even in hard ball.

I didn't know S&W made a .45 ACP revolver, but I think in any case I'd rather become more familiar with handling revolvers before I start having to screw around with moon clips or other junk. Besides, .38 Sp is probably a bit easier to learn with than .45 ACP.

The "why" part is basically the only reason that I never got one. Even though I like the concept, I just never pulled the trigger on buying one... pun intended...

The .45 ACP out of a revolver is suprisingly nice to shoot, no chunks of steel flying back and forth to augment recoil
. Yeah, the moon clips and half moon clips are another thing to fiddle around with but the they do make reloading faster. S&W made quite a few revolver models in .45 ACP, I do agree with you that .38 Sp is a very nice round to shoot though.

I always liked shooting a revolver over shooting a semi. The torque on the wrist is not there and it makes it easier to control and more comfortable.

That's what I've heard, and a revolver just suits my needs better. I can store it (in a safe of course) loaded without worrying about degrading the magazine spring, I don't have to worry about a misfire jamming the action, etc.

I had a road rage type incident yesterday. I just pulled out of a parallel parking spot onto a side road, which I had looked and only one car was coming but was well back so it was safe. The intersection was about 3 car lengths ahead. As I was planning to turn right I guess that I had not sped up enough for the guy flying up on my tail with his left turn signal on. He honked his horn. I stopped. He pushed the horn in one non-stop honk. I sat there. He started to pull around me to the left (into the oncoming traffic lane) so I pulled a touch to the left as well to continue to block him. The light turned yellow and just as it turned red I waived over my shoulder and made my right turn leaving him sitting for the entire light.
I wonder if I will see him again today

Word erased all of my footnotes and references. The notes are still in the main text with corresponding numbers, the margins are now plain white. I am dancing around the room due to my enormous joy as of now. Thank you, Microsoft Word.

So I happened to drive when the Junior High Schools kids got out school today. Usually I am either before or after this, so I miss the buses. Today I got stuck behind one of the buses in my neighborhood and it stopped three fucking times in less than 300 feet. These are pre-teen to young teenager ages. I mean it's not going to hurt them walking an extra 100 feet.
But the worse part is that I realized I DID in fact walk half a mile to my own bus stop through rain, snow, ice (incidently uphill too)...
It's a small rant.

Small, but true. Senior year I would walk home. It was a 30-45 minute walk, but I did it because... I liked it. And it delayed seeing my ex-stepfather too.

I lived close enough to each of my schools to walk home within 20 minutes, and even my college was not more than half an hour's walk. Hence, I never took the school bus past grade school.
