Well, sh*t - I've heard that everything happens for a reason, but wow. I certainly would have wished your Dad didn't have any cancer at all, but thank G-d it didn't just sit there undetected and untreated.

My bro-in-law had a nasty acoustic neuroma discovered when he went for a CT scan after a difficult oral surgery. His neurosurgeon later told him that well over half of all acoustic neuromas are found due to dentistry for completely unrelated issues.

*sigh* So Dad's colon resection leaked and he was brought to emerg this week and had an emergency colostomy. It's supposed to be temporary (6-8 months) and then their going to reconnect his bum. Unfortunately they found stage three cancer in his bowels so he'll need chemo and he was shouting through his pain about some previously unknown (to us, though I suspected) s**t that went down in Cyprus on his tour.

Shit. Here's hoping that this latest trouble will be solved as relatively easily as the last lot apparently was, and that the Cypriot drama (I assume he as there with the UN?) likewise turns turns out to be "just" a bad tour rather than worse.

Yeah he was with the UN. It's a pretty crappy thing and explains why he detests the Turks but lots of folks go through traumatic events and don't get PTSd.
