I watch Trek for the message, that things might turn out okay. I'm sick to friggin' death of dystopian 'Blade-Runner' futures where everything's in decay. A bit unrealistic? Maybe. inspirational? Damned straight.

I want some hope, just a bit, for the future generations. Trek provides a bit of that. It can show the best of humanity sometimes.

And honestly, it's a lot better than the stereotype of the series.

I used to watch Trek because I enjoyed the entertainment. Now I watch it because it is Trek, and I always hope it gets better.

I'm shallow. I always hope to see a ship to ship battle sceen with stuff blowing up, or people getting vaporised by phasers. Character growth and interaction is a second for me.

What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

If you can't identify with or at least appreciate characters and their motivations in a story, the fancy FX really are just mindless entertainment. I tend to rank them about equal in terms of my enjoyment of movies or TV. The Dark Knight is a great example of both being implemented properly.

The Dark Knight had less than I was expecting actually.

As with the first one, they went for more practical effects than CGI, but the CGI that was there was practically seamless.
