You in RL vs you online

Post by Captain Picard's Hair »

I certainly find that I can express some aspects of my personality much more freely online than I tend to in real life. Of course, I may experience this particularly strongly as I'm still a bit reversed in RL, even after all the progress I've made in overcoming my extreme introversion of childhood.

I am... essentially the same online as in RL. I can be blunt in RL, and am usually honest about my feelings.

Online, I tend to be more polite and diplomatic for some reason while I'm asserting myself for some reason. Maybe because I have the time to think while typing. In RL, I tend to be a little to blunt and to the point. And in real life, I have a REAL WEAKNESS for women. Again, online it's not that bad for some reason.

God, that sounds corney, huh?

Ah, but are you as...talkative in RL?

Yep. That I am. I got over being shy and bashful in high school, thanks to drugs. The only positive I can take away from the experience. So, I can walk up and talk to anybody pretty much about anything

Big surprise, huh?

At least you were able to find a silver lining, Mark. Kudos to you there, dude.

Yes, Kudos.

In RL, I'm shy, afraid of a fight, eager to make people laugh, lazy, and not terribly masculine.

I'm almost exactly the same. See link

I get no joy from pretending to be someone else, and nearly anything I'd say here is what I'd say face-to-face. I hold back a bit online because, well, people can see what we write.

I tend to be a bit of a yes-man both in RL and here. I can see where that might get annoying sometimes, so I thought I'd mention it.

There's nothing wrong with being diplomatic, but avoiding confrontations altogether gets you nowhere.

BE MORE ASSERTIVE!

I tend to be generally the same, although I am actually more sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek, and dry in RL because I know I can convey my intent as joking through body cues and vocal inflection.

Me in real life is exactly the same as me online. I'm quite straight forward like that. :)
