It could still be used to create new worlds for them to inhabit.Mikey wrote:OK. I don't know how much they'd use it in its weapon capacity, though - it would destroy all the potential new drones on a planet.

Re: The Genesis Device
How? The only example we have of the genesis torpedo doing that was when it had plenty of matter to work with. Plus it was a rather resounding failue in the long term.Blackstar the Chakat wrote:It could still be used to create new worlds for them to inhabit.

The could turn uninhabital planets into habital planets, and the borg would probably perfect the technology.Captain Seafort wrote:How? And what use would that be? Genesis was designed to turn lifeless rocks into gardens of Eden. The Borg have no use for the Garden of Eden, and moreover have survive in a vacuum, so don't even need a planet to be capable of supporting other forms of life.Blackstar the Chakat wrote:The could turn uninhabital planets into habital planets
How? They learn through assimilation, not experimentation.and the borg would probably perfect the technology.

Then you'd have a nanoprobe assimilation bomb, and something wholly unrelated to the Genesis Device.stitch626 wrote:Maybe they would be able to modify it to assimilate all living creatures on a planet at once. That would be very bad.

Re: The Genesis Device
But the Genesis wave should have used those nanoprobes in its planet-building effect, so you'd need to neutralise that effect.I suppose it would be possible if they were able to modify the genesis wave to carry nanoprobes. That's a bloody big "if" though
Which means you're just building a very expensive delivery system that you could have easily built beforehand.

True. It was more a case of "how can this thing be bludgened and shoehorned into something useful" than a serious suggestion for a Borg use of Genesis.Rochey wrote:But the Genesis wave should have used those nanoprobes in its planet-building effect, so you'd need to neutralise that effect.

Re: The Genesis Device
The borg have been shown to survive in a vacuum for short periods of time but if they really could survive in a vacuum in the long term then their ships wouldn't have life support, which we know they have from being borded by the hero's on dozens of occasions.Captain Seafort wrote:

Not accurate. We've seen them experiment during the 8472 war. How? They learn through assimilation, not experimentation.

Their assimilatees can't survive in a vacuum - dead bodies are of no use to the Borg.Blackstar the Chakat wrote:The borg have been shown to survive in a vacuum for short periods of time but if they really could survive in a vacuum in the long term then their ships wouldn't have life support, which we know they have from being borded by the hero's on dozens of occasions.
Having said that I also recall that Borg planets tend to resemble city-worlds more than typical planets. At least Earth did, with massive Borg structures visible on the surface. This would remove the need for the planet itself to be habitable, if Borg vacuum endurance is limited.
When? Their idea of "experimenting" there consisted of "throw more firepower at it", which isn't going to help with Genesis. The best we've heard from them was "The Omega Directive", when their experimenting meant "look for someone who knows more". They don't do their own experimental research. Not accurate. We've seen them experiment during the 8472 war.

The Borg can revive someone up to 72 hours past what we would consider 'death'.Captain Seafort wrote:Their assimilatees can't survive in a vacuum - dead bodies are of no use to the Borg.
But the genesis device can eliminate unnecessary elements, and make the planet more efficient for them to use.Having said that I also recall that Borg planets tend to resemble city-worlds more than typical planets. Actually we saw them plan to use the enhanced nanoprobes provided by Voyager with a new weapon of theirs to distribute the probes throughout an entire solar system. When? Their idea of "experimenting" there consisted of "throw more firepower at it", which isn't going to help with Genesis.

No trees were killed in transmission of this message. However, some electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

Re: The Genesis Device
Option one: Let your assimilatee die, then use nanoprobes to revive them. Continue doing so until sufficient implants have been established to allow and atmospheric shield to be generated.Blackstar the Chakat wrote:The Borg can revive someone up to 72 hours past what we would consider 'death'.
Option two: Keep your assimilatees alive.
Which do you think is more efficient?
Evidence? But the genesis device can eliminate unnecessary elements, and make the planet more efficient for them to use.
If this is accurate, it would be a disadvantage, as it reduces the resources available.
Like I said: "throw more firepower at it". There's no evidence that the weapon was new and excellent evidence that it was an established Borg design - it was the ship used in "Descent".Actually we saw them plan to use the enhanced nanoprobes provided by Voyager with a new weapon of theirs to distribute the probes throughout an entire solar system.
