Re: USS Stargazer
The might as in the powerhouse of the US Army or the might as in the division of New York.
But either way, the US being held off by a country of equal size under the protection of the most powerful nation on earth at the time vs... England lossing to a group of colonies. Nice that you kept it so close together.

And my conscious is completely clean for a change. The tempers and name calling was not started by me, nor did I participate in it.Mark wrote:Ahh yes Crush. Tempers were indeed flaring. Even some light name calling as I recall.

Britain wasn't involved in the opening phase of the war - the US army was kicked out solely due to the efforts of part-time local volunteers.Deepcrush wrote:But either way, the US being held off by a country of equal size under the protection of the most powerful nation on earth at the time
Colonies that had the support of the rest of the great powers. The most powerful nation losing to an alliance of the second, third and fourth most powerful isn't too shabby a showing.vs... England lossing to a group of colonies. Nice that you kept it so close together.

What do you think the US troops were?Britain wasn't involved in the opening phase of the war - the US army was kicked out solely due to the efforts of part-time local volunteers.
PS, Britain was involved in the opening parts of the war. British troops raided a number of US towns on the eastern shore.
We had the support of france but that came late in the war. England should have won the war long before that time. Spain came to war but wasn't really that interested with anything other then grabbing a little land. England misjudged the war and it cost them dearly. The same was the problem for France in the Seven Years War.Colonies that had the support of the rest of the great powers. The most powerful nation losing to an alliance of the second, third and fourth most powerful isn't too shabby a showing.

I'm trying to say that thing that most people have that makes them feel guilty or something. I understand it might be an alien concept to you though

I've felt guilty before, but just because i'm guilty of something doesn't mean it has to effect me in anyway.

"conscious" means "awake" or "aware." "Conscience" means the part of the superego that directs us towards our morality.Blackstar the Chakat wrote:I'm sorry did I make a typo?Deepcrush wrote:Conscious?

Those were Brits and Native Americans, not French.Captain Seafort wrote:1812 - the might of the US regular army stormed across the boarder and was promptly sent packing by Isaac Brock and Tecumseh.

There is not a problem in this world that can't be solved without the proper application of a sufficient number of thermonuclear ordnance.

Yep - that was in response to Deep asking when the US lost to Canada.

That war ended in a draw, not a defeat.

The US failed to achieve its strategic objectives - the annexation of Canada. Therefore it lost.Deepcrush wrote:That war ended in a draw, not a defeat.

IIRC the US alos lost Detroit and had a fair amount of Washington DC burned to the ground and thousands of slaves lost.Captain Seafort wrote:

A failed advance doesn't mean defeat, it means you didn't achive a goal. That tends to happen in war.Captain Seafort wrote:The US failed to achieve its strategic objectives - the annexation of Canada. Therefore it lost.Deepcrush wrote:That war ended in a draw, not a defeat.

Re: USS Stargazer
I'd call failing to achieve your objectives a defeat.
