The priority is destroying your ship not a half-baked attempt to destroy yours and the enemy in a plan that may not work cause you can't be there to ensure it works. Far greater margin of error for your plan.

Wasn't he under the influence of the illigal Ferengi 'thought maker'? Couldn't Bok put Picard's mind at a different battle, one that the E-D wouldn't be expecting?
That would defeat the purpose of his revenge and make it harder to control Picard.
Seriously, what dumbass wrote this episode?
Larry Forrester.

Edit: Have you dropped you claim on the Ferengi lacking warships?

3)leaving a booby-trap is a fairly old and often successful tactic that can kill many enemy combatants without risking more of your men.
What part of "the risk is too fracking great to gamble" is so difficult for you to understand?
I addresed Seafort's points,
Sorry, mixed his reply up with Kendall's.
Feel like addresing my points?
Kendall adequately killed them for me. I don't see the need to echo him, other than the bit at the start of this post.
And how is this addressing my points? He could scuttle the ship and wipe out several combatants at the same time without any risk to himself.
Except he didn't know it would work.
Except he didn't know if the Ferengi could detect the trap.
Except he didn't know if the Ferengi could disarm it.
Except he didn't know if they'd even board the ship at all, instead of towing it back to a repair facility.
Except he didn't know if it would actualy even hurt the next ship that came along.
Except he didn't know if they could just download its computer core without boarding it.
Except that he'd never be able to confirm its destruction.
Except that would further drive the two powers to war, something Picard is always keen to avoid.
Except that it would mean handing the Stargazer over to the Ferengi first, giving them all the time they needed to investigate the ship and possibly determine there was a trap there.

That enough problems for you, or should I go on?

One more point. Leaving a booby trapped ship is a great way to hurt or kill some poor inncocent guy, who honestly just stumbled across the ship.

Imagine this scenario:
Another Fed ship picks up the Stargazer's distress signal and goes to help out.
Congratulations, Picard, you've just fragged a friendly starship.

You suggested using the Stargazer as a trap. Picard had nothing else to use as a weapon. Therefore you did indeed suggest using the shuttles.
You mean other then the Stargazer exploding?
3)leaving a booby-trap is a fairly old and often successful tactic that can kill many enemy combatants without risking more of your men.
And of course Picard mentioned this major point of his evacuation of the Stargazer. And Bok mentioned losing men to these traps. Wait a minute...
Gee, didn't I say anything about the tactic failing this time?
I know the 'gazer didn't damage the E-D, the Picard Maneuver being stopped by a tractor beam. If I remember correctly. What idiot thought it was a good idea to use the most obvious manoeuvre possible to try and destroy the E-D?
I repeat: go and watch the episode, or read the script, and find out. I'm not doing your research for you.
You're an idiot you know that? I'm saying that's what I remember from the episode. Maybe you should go ask the wizard for a brain Scarecrow
That enough problems for you, or should I go on?
The riskier the road the greater the profit!

I didn't think that was relevant

If that was possible they wouldn't have abandoned ship in the first place.

Hey, here's a crazy idea for you: how about you adress my points instead of just waving them off with more BS?
If that was possible they wouldn't have abandoned ship in the first place.
They didn't know what was going on in the area, it was unexplored. Anything could have happened. Hell, they could have accidently declared war on a race by blowing up their starship that just dropped by to see if they could help.

So, here you say that he could rig the Stargazer to explode; yet earlier you said he left it intact because he had no mechanism to make it explode. And you're the one rolling your eyes?

And the greater chance to do something dumb, like having your materiel fall into hostile hands... like what did happen.
Blackstar the Chakat wrote:I didn't think that was relevant
Then why did you bring up the point of the Ferengi's lack of warships? You thought it was irrelevant, yet you introduced it to the debate. OK...

And the point about prority and risk flies over your head.

Gee, didn't I say anything about the tactic failing this time?
We've seen this tactic all of once in Trek, by the greatest SF Captain in history. Picard was a nobody in command of a scow.

You're an idiot you know that? I'm saying that's what I remember from the episode. Maybe you should go ask the wizard for a brain Scarecrow
And you wonder why people here hold you in low regard. Here's a hint: this isn't school and we're not your teachers.

The riskier the road the greater the profit!
Good thing Picard isn't a Ferengi then. You have any more useless sayings you want to throw around?

I didn't think that was relevant
Why did you make it then?
If that was possible they wouldn't have abandoned ship in the first place.
Of course it being on fire blows that right out of the water.

Things change. go with the flow
You have any more useless sayings you want to throw around?
A stitch in time saves nine?

This episode may be dumber then Nemisis.

1)Picard was the captain of a ship with a hull number in the 2xxx range indicating it's from kirk's era
2)The ship fell into enemy hands, even though it was probably useless but you guys are making a big stink about so I'll mention it anyway
3)The 'gazer was still combat capable so why did they abandon it?
4)The Ferengi are in a D'Kora class ship that as you guys have pointed out is a match for a Galaxy, so why didn't they just blow the E-D away?
5)Bok made Picard use the Picard manuvour which shouldn't have been a big deal since they knew it was coming
6)The E-D should know which Stargazer to shoot
7)Since when do Ferengi put revenge above profit? Quark's cousin tried to kill him and he let it go to make a profit.
8)The 'gazer was abandoned because it was on fire? Evacutate that section and vent it into space, problem solved.

1)Picard was the captain of a ship with a hull number in the 2xxx range indicating it's from kirk's era
And? Why is this a problem?
2)The ship fell into enemy hands, even though it was probably useless but you guys are making a big stink about so I'll mention it anyway
The fact that you are so bloody obtuse that you can't see what's wrong with this speaks to a serious defect in your logic.
3)The 'gazer was still combat capable so why did they abandon it?
Re-read the thread, various reasons have been thrown around. Marks was the best.
4)The Ferengi are in a D'Kora class ship that as you guys have pointed out is a match for a Galaxy, so why didn't they just blow the E-D away?
Revenge.
5)Bok made Picard use the Picard manuvour which shouldn't have been a big deal since they knew it was coming
Watch the episode and you'll have the answer, cause obviously you can't read.
6)The E-D should know which Stargazer to shoot
Watch the episode and you'll have the answer, cause obviously you can't read.
7)Since when do Ferengi put revenge above profit? Quark's cousin tried to kill him and he let it go to make a profit.
Daimon Bok was obvioulsy unhinged, and the Ferengi military is quite different from the one note DS9 civvies.
8)The 'gazer was abandoned because it was on fire? Evacutate that section and vent it into space, problem solved.
Vent the bridge into space?

You know what, go back and watch the episodes because clearly you have no idea WTF has happened in Trek. Maybe then you'll be able to contribute something.
