Re: Our Ship - Torpedo Configuration
Just noticed Seaforts post. Option 1 isnt too bad but that is a pretty poor stopping power. Its gonna be slow, considering that at least one of them has to be afte facing.

Agreed, a battleship needs to be able to land the hurt that just keeps giving. A couple of torps here and there, not so much. A wall of torps, all the better!

Sorry gang. I don't know if you've all discussed this already, but again, what about ventral and dorsal torpedo tubes for the ship? Even swivel turrets would be good. I just hate leaving blind spots.

Our phasers will cover any blind spots we have in torps. The torps are there for long range fire on smaller targets that the Lance can't hit. Also to give us defensive abilities while at warp.

You do know that phasers work at warp right?Deepcrush wrote:Our phasers will cover any blind spots we have in torps. The torps are there for long range fire on smaller targets that the Lance can't hit. Also to give us defensive abilities while at warp.

Only when firing on a target that is not at warp. Phasers move at the speed of light. That is a bad thing when you are going faster then the speed of light. warheads are far better for combat when at warp speeds.

Re: Our Ship - Torpedo Configuration
Actually we've seen phasers used at warp in multiple episodes. Voyager's Basics, Part 1 and again Message in a Bottle when the Prometheus wipes the floor with a Nebula-class ship. The Jem'Hadar use phasers at warp in "Valient". And this is just off the top of my head.Deepcrush wrote:Only when firing on a target that is not at warp. Phasers move at the speed of light. Re: Our Ship - Torpedo Configuration
The ONLY explination that I can even think of to come close involves a ships warp field. Warp drive distorts space around a ship, so MAYBE, (and this is a HUGE maybe), phasers CAN be used at warp for a VERY limited range, such as they would pass beyond a certain part of the warp field and revert back to normal space (ie E-Ds saucer section in Encounter at Farpoint)

Here's a picture of a runabout using phasers at warp in "Treachery, Faith, and the Great River"

Re: Our Ship - Torpedo Configuration
This would to me count more as a writer error then anything else. I'm not sure how well the warp field would work though as the speed of the phaser beam would greatly out pace that of the warp bubble.

Well, it's a fairly common thing in trek so it has to be more the writer errorDeepcrush wrote:This would to me count more as a writer error then anything else. I'm not sure how well the warp field would work though as the speed of the phaser beam would greatly out pace that of the warp bubble.

Re: Our Ship - Torpedo Configuration
Doesn't seem very common to me. One ep, out of how many hundreds?
