But, should Chekov even be old enough to be in the acadamy yet? He was 22 when Enterprise encountered Apollo and Kirk had already been in command for a while. The movie would have to be set less than four years before that. Unless they try and portray him as another Wesley, (god help us all)

This is going to be a reboot guys, there's no way to shoehorn what they've got into existing continuity unless they fall through a timehole.

To be fair, they have to do something drastic if they want the franchise to ever recover. If it doesn't attract new fans, and avoid alienating existing fans further than ENT and VOY already did, there won't be another Star Trek for thirty years.

Sad, but true. I just hope they don't modify the Enterprise too much. Like giving it phaser arrays, or type 9 shuttles. Oh wait, B&B aren't involved, never mind.

I'm trusting JJ on this one; he seems damn serious about it.

Lost is the best show on broadcast TV, IMO, and MI:3 was vastly superior to 2. Cloverfield was damn cool as well. I think the guy knows what he's doing.

Well, I saw a trailer and the ship looked much as it should for the time period. Even showed guys working with welding torches

Honestly, that's a sure fire way to piss off the remainig fans (all 100k or so) and drive away any new viewers. Trek is already known far too much for cheesy time travel plots.

The scene of the E-nil on earth in the trailors may actually be real scenes. The director's reasoning is that if the E-nil is strong enough to travel at warp, it's strong enough to have been built on earth. There were also other reasons, having something to do with actual gravity being an advantage, since all the systems inside would operate at 1G anyway
