Yeah, you'd think that if any ship could field a few of those properly, it'd be the D'Deridex.
On the other hand, the Cardassians were stated to use something called "plasma torpedoes" on the ODP's, so maybe those green torpedoes we saw the Warbirds firing were some modern plasma torpedo type.
I guess. The original Romulan Plasma Torpedo destroyed an entire outpost with a few shots. I guess the Romulans use lesser yield torpedoes for ship to ship battle. Though when the Tal Shiar attacked the Founder's planet, it would be nice to see a high yield plasma torpedo for massive damage.

I thought they went with the retro look, since the uniforms in Enterprise were so similar
They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

The Romulans also went back to green starships. Retro is in with the Star Empire. Next they'll abandon warp.

No matter how isolated you are people are still gonna know whats happening there. Picking up communications and spying on them, the Federation and the Klingons would know if something major was going down.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Agreed about the planetary bombardment, but the plasma torpedo was inadequate for ship-to-ship combat. Kirk & co. were able to outrun one until it's yeild was negligible.

*sigh* They HAD FTL drive in "Balance of Terror." Scotty's quote referred specifically to their manner of power generation.

Realistically, though, with tensions between the Klingons/Federation so high, you'd think the Romulans would be trying to sit back and watch them destroy each other (and do the typical sneakery to try to exaccerbate things). Meanwhile, they'd built up a significant armament and bided their time until either the Klingon Empire or Federation became weak enough to be conquered. Their blood fued with the Klingons, however, led to attacks like Nerendra 3, Khitomer, etc., inadvertently creating the alliance between the Federation and Klingon Empire, thus making the buildup too little, too late. Only the borg attacks forced them out of their isolation.
Honestly, it would be a relatiely intelligent move by the Romulans to sit back and amass a force. But sometimes even with pocket aces, your opponent picks up a runner-runner flush.
Don't you hear my call, though you're many years away, don't you hear me calling you?
My thoughts exactly. They could gain lots more by simply sitting back, not drawing attention to themselves, and watch the Feds and Klingons go for each other's throats.

I think they would have, if the Dominion War hadn't cropped up and they had gotten involved. That would have been the perfect time for them when the Dominion lost if they hadn't gotten involved. Both the Feds and Klingons would be massively weakened, while the Romulan fleet would have been at full strength.

But we're also assuming they want to take over space.
They may be happy with what they have, they just dont want the other guys getting stronger because it threatens them.
The Klingos seem to want to expand their territory but the Romulans seem to be happy with what they have.

Quite true. We know virtualy nothing about the Romulans' objectives and goals.
