They may fear it but they can do bugger all against it. Very soon the Federation is going to be to large for anyone to reaosnably fight in a conventional war. The only way left to fight it is by... sinister actions (Couldnt think of a good word) thus fleets of star ships are useless.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

i agree with teaos. however, once the federation gets so large, i feel it might reach a critical mass and actually breakup into fractions that fight against itself. i think there was an abortive attempt to get at this with the marquis, but several similar rebellions like that could weaken and chop the federation down to size. otherwise, the only group that i feel could possibly take on the federation in a conventional fight are the mirror universe groups.Teaos wrote:They may fear it but they can do bugger all against it. i don't know. i would like to see the federation lose touch with its founding ideals and become corrupt. but i'm crazy from sleep deprivation.

I see something like that happening. The Vulcans and Bajorans leading a peaceful group who splinters due to all the fighting. Humans and Andorians being a strong military force but not aggressive. Kind of like peace keepers. And another group who goes for militant.

Peace is protected in that the starfleet still answers to the federation council and loval government. Internal fighting is meaningless, the marquis formed because the federation was weak in its dealings with the cardassians. But the cardassians and klingons are joining the federation and the only two major powers left will be the romulans and the breen. Neither of which could hope be beat the federation in a war, let alone with the newer forces joining the UFP.

But the Romulans, especially, would be the IDEAL candidates to employ espionage to foment unrest, sedition, and rebellion. And who knows? Maybe they could get some of the little-dealt-with species to come in on their side... the Sheliak, perhaps? Relations with the Tholians are not exactly warm and cuddly, either......the only two major powers left will be the romulans and the breen. Neither of which could hope be beat the federation in a war, let alone with the newer forces joining the UFP.

There are no near by powers that can take us in a proper fight thus they will all have to use espionage.

I'd say the future of the Federation is far from peacefull.
Klingons.
Personally, I've always been a bit skeptical of that future in which the Klingons join the Federation. Sure, they may be currently allies. But Klingon culture is almost the complete opposite of the Federation. Many Klingons consider the Federation to be weak and pathetic and have nothing but contempt for humans. What could possibly give them reason to join. Also, while they were allies during the war, keep in mind that was more out of nessesity. If the AQ hadn't teamed up the Dominion would have rolled right over them. Also, don't forget the alternate future in which the dissapearance of one ship was enough to send both races into total war. Relations may currently be good, but I doubt they'd get that good.
Romulans.
Don't they have the whole "we are destined to rule the galaxy" thing going on? While they may be weak, they would never join the Federation peacefully.
Ferengi.
Would never join for obvious reasons. Although, its unlikely they'd go to war either.
Tholians.
Relations with these guys are far from good. And keep in mind we have no idea about their military power. These guys would be unliekly to join peacefully, and to say the Federation could beat them easily is a bit of a leap in logic.
Breen.
Still around, still a threat. We can pretty much be certain they wont be too happy with the Federation. And while they may not be able to chalenge the Federation directly we still have little knowledge of them.
Gorn.
No idea what their current status is. But their last encounter with humans can't have given them a good impression.
Cardassians.
These guys might just join the Federation from fear of Klingon invasion, but I doubt they'd be too happy with it.
Dominion.
There would be serious hatred of the Federation here, good look getting along with them peacefully.
Borg.
Do I need to explain this?
So I doubt the Federation has everything its own way.
Klingons.

The klingons are under martok who is a huge friend of the federation, the klingon culture is under stress to change with the times and i see martok as that person to lead the change. Oh by the way, the loss of E-C didn't start the war, it was the E-C's coming to the aid of the klingons that made the peace. The KE and the UFP have never been stronger allies then they are now.
The romulans will always be a problem until we deal with them.
Ferengi are under rom now and with the reforms he's putting in will surely join the federation on day.
The tholians just want to be left alone so just let them be.
Breen need to get knocked out just as much as the romulans.
Gorn and UFP have a treaty in place for the last 100 years, they wouldn't bother us.
Cardassians are in the mist of a huge revolation after the dominion war. They want peace and safety which the UFP can give them.
The dominion is unsure as to anything right now with odo leading them to change.
Borg are borg, not much you can do about them.
8472, just don't want anything to do with the feds since janeway made them believe that we have weapons that can kill them.

So? He wont be around forever. He most likely has quite a few enemies. The klingons are under martok who is a huge friend of the federation
1) Were have we heard that?the klingon culture is under stress to change with the times and i see martok as that person to lead the change.
2) You can't just change a whole culture in such a radical way. It would cause mass political chaos that would probably just lead to a civil war.
Really? Then what started the war?Oh by the way, the loss of E-C didn't start the war, it was the E-C's coming to the aid of the klingons that made the peace.
Out of need for survival. I teach history, and believe me that there are plenty of 'strong allies' who turned on each other. The KE and the UFP have never been stronger allies then they are now.
Thats my point. The romulans will always be a problem until we deal with them.
Thats my point. They wouldn't willingly join the Fedration without a fight. The tholians just want to be left alone so just let them be.
Thats my point.Breen need to get knocked out just as much as the romulans.
Very well. I was unaware of that.Gorn and UFP have a treaty in place for the last 100 years, they wouldn't bother us.
Yes, although I doubt they'd be too happy about it.Cardassians are in the mist of a huge revolation after the dominion war. They want peace and safety which the UFP can give them.
I'm rather skeptical of Odo's ability to change the viewpoint of an entire species who have a history of strong xenophobia.he dominion is unsure as to anything right now with odo leading them to change.
Thats my point.Borg are borg, not much you can do about them.
I was under the impression they didn't care about this galaxy at all untill the borg attacked.8472, just don't want anything to do with the feds since janeway made them believe that we have weapons that can kill them.
