I figured he left early picking up escape pods on his way out after taking significant damage, figuring the rest of the fleet would stop it. It would also explain the discrepancy of Sisko surviving via escape pod, and the E-D not finding any survivors at the battle site.Mark wrote:Have to wonder how that ship survived, when you consider that the threat was so great, Riker was willing to ram the cube with the E-D to try and stop them. She must have been dead in space, or I would have assumed the Captain be willing to do ANYTHING to stop the Borg, just like Riker. Ram the cube, self destruct the ship and hope to take a piece of the cube with them, so on and so forth. But it didn't. It wasn't even there when the E-D passed through the sector. But if it was dead in space, why wasn't it assimilated. Hmmmmm, did the Captain run away from battle?

He may have been ordered away to prepare for the next run at it.

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Makes sense, I have to say
They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

Or he could simply have fled the field of battle when he saw they had no chance to stop it. He sees ships going down all over the place, and decides "screw this, we're not going to win this one" and flees at maximum warp.

But considering they HAD to stop the Borg I doubt they'd do that unless they have a plan.

Re: Question about Wolf 359
Why? Look at it from his point of view.
The majority of the fleet has just been destroyed. The flagship is probably down, so there's no cohesion. The enemy ship is still unscratched. Your weapons are having no effect.
Remaining in this area would mean throwing away the lives of your crew for nothing.
Retreating would allow Starfleet to save an extra ship, and you might be able to send warning back to Earth.
In that situation, the only logical course of action is to run for it.

Another starbase, where they can regroup and throw another, larger, fleet at them.

That was everything they had, there was nothing else.

Trying with guarenteed failure is pretty much the definition of idiotic.Teaos wrote:May as well die trying to stop them before its to late.
And Teaos, I highly doubt that was every ship they had, and there were certainly more Starbases.

Re: Question about Wolf 359
Teaos, I seriously doubt TNG era Starfleet numbered 40 ships. Those were all the ships they had that could reach the Cube in time, not the entirety of their fleet.

Re: Question about Wolf 359
No but that was the fleet they could muster before it reached Earth. And the captains would do everything they could to save Earth.

Re: Question about Wolf 359
I have to agree with Rochey on this one. The Endeavor probably retreated to make repairs and join up with a 'second wave'. While Earth may have suffered some damage, Starfleet would probably try sending a second larger wave with reinforcements from other fleets and the Klingon Defense Fleet

Re: Question about Wolf 359
What second wave?
The cube wasnt to far away from Earth and those 40 ships was everything that could be mustered. Another fleet wouldnt form for weeks.

Re: Question about Wolf 359
Than you wait weeks. If your the only survivor of a forty ship fleet that failed to do any damage than retreating is a perfectly valid option. Remember that the E-D only defeated the Borg through act of plot. This vessel had no captured Borg mouthpiece to exploit.Teaos wrote:What second wave?
