They were trying to create a new continent, which is a bit different from exploring the sea! I really can't seem them not being able to get there. I'm sure their sensors could cut through 7 miles of water with ease, and if they wanted to physically get there they'd have no problem with the relatively negligible pressures.Tsukiyumi wrote:I don't know, the Atlantis project in the episode after BoBW made it sound a bit like research had been slow going. So...you think it's a psychic probe?Rochey wrote: No idea. Though we have seen in a few TNG+ era episodes that some races have tech that can talk directly to peoples' minds. It wouldn't be implausable to suggest that this probe had such a system, particularly given its apparent sophistication.

It's a possibility. We've seen stuff like that before in other series, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to imagine that this probe has such a system, particularly given its advanced nature.

And isn't that adding an unknown into the equation? Like my subspace idea?

Not really, no.

Which 'friend' are you talking to. I could see you talking to either me or Rochey here.Mikey wrote:Tread carefully, my friend...

Sorry, I should have reffed that. I initially meant Rochey, because I believe he's proposing to assume an unproven element just like Blackstar.
However, @ Blackstar - bringing up the subspace idea as evidence of anything is also probably not a really strong idea.

Well, it is an unproven element, but pushing the point would only result in another debate which should end in a stalemate.

I know what you mean, Mikey. But it's the only real explaination I can think of that doesn't involve magic subspace whales, and we have seen such tech before, so we know it's possible.
