So you didn't get to see the F-22A? Bummer. That bird's really a sight to see. I saw one at AirVenture Oshkosh last year, and a flight demonstration.

It's coming back this year along with the Goodyear Blimp, a V-22 Osprey Tiltrotor, Rocket Racing League planes with exhibition races, the Boeing Dreamlifter: Making a 24-hour stop at EAA AirVenture(which means I'm probably going to miss it, sadly), this colossal modified 747-400 aircraft is one of only three in the world. The Dreamlifter features a significantly enlarged fuselage allowing it to carry more cargo by volume than any airplane. Not to mention the usual assortment of modern military craft.

I was under the impression that V-22's were reliable craft, although a tad difficult to keep up with repairs due to some of it's rarer components.

I was under the impression that V-22's were reliable craft, although a tad difficult to keep up with repairs due to some of it's rarer components.

They've been in development for over 20 years now, only now reaching a stage where they can be deployed in limited capacity. A large part of that was the frequent crashes. The vehicle is also going to be unarmed, not a good idea for Air Assualt. Oh and it lacks the range and cargo capacity of the latest conventional choppers.

There's a maintainer on the Arcana forums that says they are a maintanence nightmare.

Since becoming operational in 2006, the V-22 has had six notable, though otherwise minor, incidents and from 1991 to 2000 there were four significant crashes during testing.

Nothing from VAT goes to running the health service. That is paid for by National Insurance alone. The rules for that are as follows:

Not true. No central tax money is ring-fenced for specific purposes, no matter what the original intention was. It all goes into a common pot, and all spending is spent from that pot.

If you doubt that, consider that NHS funding has risen by almost 100% in real terms over the last ten years.

The National Insurance rate has not even come remotely close to doubling over that timeframe.

Except that five year olds are seldom seen in shops buying things with the money they don't earn. So they're not taxed in any way shape or form. Certainly two and three years olds aren't ever seen paying VAT, fuel duty or any other taxes, yet they don't get turned away from hospitals.

Hence my saying "Pretty much everybody in the UK pays tax. Certainly every adult who operates in the world does..."

I love that it's almost as big as, and outweighs a B-17 Flying Fortress, and makes the Fortress look like a pile of crap performance-wise. Only six decades later... I wonder what planes will be like in 2068?
