Voth, Hirogen, and many other Delta races live right next to the borg but seem unworried about them.
Given the Hirogen's nomadic society, it's likely that while the Borg assimilate any stray Hirogen they run into, they're not worth the effort it work take to assimilate the Hirogen as a culture - they're simply too dispersed.

As for the Voth their ships are a dozen kilometres long and they're proficient computer hackers. It's probable that it that case the Borg are simply outmatched.

I'd also like to point out that the Borg aren't really a race that wipes out a civilisation. The Cubed may have gone for earth since it was near by and had a lot of resourses (Drones). They have assimilated Federation ships and got our tech which is all they want most of the time.

Then what was the whole point of First Contact if not to stop the Federation?

To get resourses to get some twch that only Earth may have. Because it was in the area with nothing better to do?

The Cube just seemed to want Earth it wasnt till it got destroyed that they decided to go back and kill the whole human race and the Federation.

What could Earth have which is unavailable on millions of other planets?
Because it was in the area with nothing better to do?
With a queen on board?
We've seen the queens do have higher inteligence than the drones, so I doubt she'd just decide to have a go at Earth for no reason. And what about all the other planets between Earth and borg space, why didn't the cube assimilate them first?
The Cube just seemed to want Earth it wasnt till it got destroyed that they decided to go back and kill the whole human race and the Federation.
And the fact that they had a sphere aboard that was capable of time travel was just a lucky coincidence?

Maybe they all ahve the capability to do it they just dont. A fail safe maybe.

Also if they did intend to destroy them out right why not go back in time before even getting into battle? Would have been easier and safer.

It seems to be a spur of the moment thing when they realised defeat was on them.

Whats this in reply to?

Overconfidence and/or stupidity. The borg are guilty of both on many ocasions.
It seems to be a spur of the moment thing when they realised defeat was on them.
What? The time travel?
If so, then why did they have both a queen and time travel capable sphere on board? If this was just a random unplaned attack then why have either of these on board?

I mean maybe all Borg ships have the ability to time travel. They only use it as a last resort and when the fell it is REALLY needed.

And why would they just use it there? Why not when the first cube they sent was destroyed? Why didn't they use it against 8472? Why bother with time travel at all when they could just send a dozen cubes and win that way with no loss? Why do species in the delta quadrant who have held off the borg not fall victim to time travel?
And why was the queen taking a trip past Earth anyway?

I thought the time travel part was BS. If the Borg can do it that easily why don't they keep sending time ships into their distant past to make themselves more and more advanced? Star Trek time travel doesn't seem to be effected by conundroms like that anyway.

My personal theory on this (as I said in another thread, I believe) is that time travel is just another way of hoping into an alternate dimension. A very, very similar one, but not yours. This would explain how all this screwing around in the timelines never seem to erase anyone or anything.
And it also saves headaches. :)

I would presume they dont mess with time because it may be increadbly risky. They only use it when they feel any alternative is worse than the risks involved.

As I said I dont think the Borg really try to Conquer races. They just attack to get what ever it is they want at the time.

And they felt they needed it more at Earth than for Species 8472?
They were on the brink of being wiped out, I would imagine they would use any advantage they had.

Well it appears I'm losing the time travel debate :D

I suppose I could just say "Time travel is complicated and we cant understand it"

But to try and debate it I'll say the fact that another dimension is involved may have some effect. Or maybe 8472 stopped them from doing it some how. Or maybe the Borg really wanted to find a way to assimilate them and decided to try and stick it out.

In other news, George Bush is stupid. :)
But to try and debate it I'll say the fact that another dimension is involved may have some effect.
That could be a problem. But didn't the borg attack first? Surely they could just go back and say "don't attack these guys if you want to live."?
Or maybe 8472 stopped them from doing it some how.
Possible, but unlikely. 8472 don't use technology, which is the easiest way to go to different time periods. (that we know of)
Or maybe the Borg really wanted to find a way to assimilate them and decided to try and stick it out.
If thats true then my opinion of the borgs' inteligence just dropped like a brick.

Don't you just hate it when things are so inconsistant?
