There is only one way of avoiding the war – that is the overthrow of this society. However, as we are too weak for this task, the war is inevitable. -L. Trotsky, 1939

Watching your family whittle away really sucks. At least you and Graham have a good relationship. I don't get on too well with a lot of my family.

I have one Granddad left.
Strangly one side of my family is very long lived (90+) were as the other half is lucky to hit 60.

What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Agreed, we still have both parents and a sister, who is currently living in Australia.Tsukiyumi wrote:Watching your family whittle away really sucks. At least you and Graham have a good relationship. I don't get on too well with a lot of my family.

I'm grandparentless too. Though I suppose I gained a grandma-in law. Though I suppose by having a kid I made more grandparents out of my parents.
Circle of life and all that.
Still sad/bittersweet. And my wife misses her mom really bad.

I never knew my nan on dads side. she died in 1982 of cancer. Nan on mums side is...iffy. Grandad on dads side is drinking, bitching and smoking himself into a grave. And grandad on mums side is so finecky, i wouldnt be surprised if he outlives my parents.

Four out of Six of my grandparents are still alive, but one of them is on his last let(well, actually heart. There's a good chance his heart will give out this year). The two that are dead died before my dad turned three. They were in their fortys and had 9 kids(that I know of). Luckily some of his brothers and sister were old enough to take care of him.

I take it that you include either great aunties/uncles or parents of your step parents, there?

Ya. When my mother was still in school her parents got a divorce. They both remarried(my mother's father got remarried multiple times.) My grandmother's new husband(who'd technically be my step-grandfather) never treated me differently then any of his other 'real' grandkids and he's more of a grandfather then my 'real' grandfather. My 'real' grandfather doesn't really see us that much and I don't even know the name of his current wife.IanKennedy wrote:Errm, Six?ChakatBlackstar wrote:Four out of Six of my grandparents are still alive, but one of them is on his last let(well, actually heart. Nope. Step-grandparents. Neither of my parents have remarried...yet.Thorin wrote:I take it that you include either great aunties/uncles or parents of your step parents, there?

Sounds similar to my situation. Both my dad's parents are dead, but my maternal grandparents are alive - but I never see my real grandad, and my grandmother's husband (my step grandfather I suppose) died a couple of years back. I don't know the name of my real grandad's wife either.

I'm going out to find a new place to live today (a house!); hopefully I won't need to be as paranoid once I move.
Wish me luck!
