Yes the Defiant is on the 6th place.

Sacriface of angels. The battle lasted for 5h Defiant lost its shields after 2h of fighting. After 5h 200hundret ships broke throgh the Dominion lines. Will you try to argue that the ships that survived for 5h were the Mirandas.
This tells me you haven't seen the shows or movies... you forgot the Sov.

The Akira would snow walk a GCS unless you're talking about the Uprated. Even then its still a tie. At range the Akira would own where up close the GCS would do better with its fair bit of phaser power. The Nebula could most likely be later upgraded to surpass the Akira. The Upgraded GCS is just not going to be able to keep up with the times as well as the newer designs. The Defiant is just a flying Phaser Cannon with a few QTs for good measure added on.

There is more to a ship's effectiveness then its rated combat power. Remember in the mirror universe, one lone defiant class vessel built by the free humans on torrok nor (aka ds9) took on a vessel approximate to the neg'var and forced it to retreat. The reason the defiant is so effective is because it delivers a massive amount of firepower in a small highly maneuverable package vs the big cruisers such as the Soveriegn, Galaxy, Nebula, Akira and Ambassador classes. I don't include the prometheus because its still an experimental vessel.
You do know the Defiant was also experimental and yet at the same time could still be counted as a ship.
Back to the defiant, thus if you want to fight the defiant, you need something that can maneuver on a par with it, or atleast limits it's ability to maximize your gigantic size against you. That is why the Lakota is such an excellent vessel. Its large enough to pack in a massive amount of phaser banks covering everything direction of the hull but too small for the defiant to hug its hull delivering wounding attacks. thats one of the reasons it suffered so much damage facing the lakota, it couldn't pull in close to the hull and deliver its attack but move too fast too close to the phaser systems to avoid damage. now, with a full size cruiser or maybe even a nebula, the defiant could pull off this maneuver.
The GCS has a full 360 * 360 fire arc. The GCS also has a lot more phaser power then a Lakota. If anything an uprated GCS would have been better then the Lakota. Since neither ship wanted to use QTs then the GCS would have a nice advantage.
And i tend to think the reason we saw miranda class vessels being used and not constitution class is because there weren't a whole lot of constituttions left to begin with. I think mirandas were built in larger quantity and used extensively in show the flag, patrol and other duties. the constitutions were exploring the frontier and defending the bordor.
This is most likely true. That and the Miranda was small and cheap enough that it could be mass produced.

An excellent point made about the Galaxy class. However, I would like to point out the fact that if you re read what I said, you will realize that firing arcs were not the reasoning I was making, rather that the fast moving hull hugging defiant would be extremely difficult to actually hit and similar to the mirror world negh'var the galaxy could be exploited by the defiant in the same manner. however the smaller size of the lakota helps negate that possibility forcing the defiant to make turns outside the hull hugging ark allowing the lakota to exploit an advantage in size that the galaxy would be vulnerable to.

And just how the hell can you say the defiant was experimental?? they were mass producing the damned thing during the dominion war.

Seafort wrote:I'm talking about the weapons pod - the fact that its connection to the pylon has such a small area minimises the number of connections (power lines, computer lines, turbolifts, etc) that could pass through it, and makes it a structural weak point. The best explanation for this apparent weakness is that it's designed to support numerous designs of pod, depending on the mission - the weapons pod is simply the one we've seen most of.
I don't remember but did we see any other pod on that pylon.
Seafort wrote:By and large, the bigger a sensor is the more powerful it is, and therefore the longer its range will be. However, the emissions of a particularly powerful system could be harmful to the ship and its crew, and being contained within the hull (usually behind the deflector dish) would severely reduce the area of sky it could cover. Therefore it makes sense to hold the array as far clear as is feasible.
Again you make a reasonable response but we only see one such Nebula. That tells me that the SP variant had a limited run and was possibly later refitted with the WP. So the SP probably didn't offer any huge advantage over a standard sensor.
Seafort wrote:I'd put the Defiant 7th, with the Ambassador coming in about level with the Nebula and Akira - it's an old ship, but it's big, and the E-C evidently put up a decent showing against four Warbirds. I also reckon the Prommie would probably be weaker the Galaxy, because of its small size.
The original version not, but if it would be upgrade with the GSC systems than you would be right.
The prommi its hull is only something like 50-100m shorter then the Sov and has the same weapons than the sov, and let us not forget the MVAM (where it doesn't make sense it's effective in universe).

You know that it was specially stated that the mirror universe Neg'var had problems hitting anything up close.
Deepcrush wrote:This is crap served on a stick. Only the Sov is rated above the Defiant. There are a few ships close to the Defiant. The Prommie, Lakota, Upgraded GCS, Upgraded Nebula and Akira are the nearest compitition. The thought of someone saying that there are a fleet of ships that could kick the Defiant's ass is just silly. Read the DITL ratings, watch the show, do some math and rethink that statement.

Its reasoning based on what we see. The first impressions were grate, you know it just cut its way past the bugs, but later in the war the BOP were able to do the same thing. As I said before "SOA" after 2h of fighting it lost its shields, and it received fire mostly from the bugs. The GSC were right up next to it yet they survived for 5h. QT: GSC, Nebula, Akira, can each fire at least 20 PT at a target. So if the QT are not 5 times stronger than a PT all of these ships deliver more firepower.
Cpl Kendall wrote:Did I say that? No, in fact the Miranda class were the hardest hit ships in the entire fleet. What I am saying is that we don't know how those other ships fared, chances are that they lost their shields as well. Defiant is also in the thick of everything in practically every engagement. And if you watch the show, you'll note that she came out on top in every one save when the Breen originally showed up.

You asked what I base that on. It was the hero ship. But rating it 2nd is wrong. I said before firs impressions were great but after looking through the battle scenes I concluded that is nothing special.

I know that I misspelled the sov.

You are basing the fact that the Akira would snow walk the GSC on what. Surely not on the non canon statement that it has 15 tubes. You are forgetting that its established several times that the GSC are the most powerful ships in the fleet. And even if we take that the Akira has 15 tubes why would we assume that they are 10 shots like the GSC.

The Nebulas what is the torpedo tube load out without the WP. And what kind of tube are carried in the WP. We just don't know. But if we go by the statement that GSC are the most powerful ships than the tubes can't be 10 shots. Where I agree that the WP makes it easy to be upgraded with QT.

GSC upgrade you mean the Venture. But if you would be able to upgrade it with the sov technology and if it can grow a few extra tubes than why wouldn't it be able to keep up with the rest of the fleet.

I believe the GCS and all big ships have such a advantage in raw power they can bring to the field that while not winning the GCS could put up a good fight.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Give us some examples, yes it was a hero ship but that is an OOU explanation.

I'm going to pick a space station, for shyts and giggles. Not DS9, but another similar station. Might make for some interesting dynamics. Long-term stationary position, could mean a static crew.

I'm going with a freighter, hopefully I avoid things that show up on the weirdshitOmeter and not die a horrible death.

Sounds good to me.
No trees were killed in transmission of this message. However, some electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

isn't it freighters running into weirdshitO that draws starships to their horrible death??

More like science vessels. I'm pretty sure that the number of times a freighter has gotten into trouble is less than the times the Big E's have run into stuff on their own.

BTW I mean a civve frieghter, Sisko's wife seem to get along without trouble (when she wasn't smuggling).
