Not to toot my own horn ( ) but for beef anyway, one way to make sure your hot dog is 100% real beef is to buy kosher brands. Otherwise, you could end up with the same ingredients as scrapple. :worried:

You don't enjoy playing the mystery meat lottery?

 Yeah I know, Jewish. If nothing else you have a built in reason not to buy cheap hot dogs.

Rochey may as well change his name to that. He's around here enough.

I'm not Jewish, but I always buy kosher hot dogs. I figure, if it meets their standards (are you technically ever allowed to eat a cheeseburger, let alone a bacon cheeseburger?), it's more than good enough for me.

Why couldn't you eat a cheeseburger, it's beef.

Ah, but you aren't supposed to mix dairy products with meat for some reason, thus the need for seperate "milk plates" and "meat plates". Personally, that's the only reason I could never be Jewish: I can't be part of any religion that bans bacon cheeseburgers.

You can if you buy it from a butcher.

At one point in history (when the Jews were living in mud huts) these rules all made sense, they prevented food poisoning and cross contamination. Especially with pork, which could be quite deadly until they invented the fridge. Now there basically an amusing holdover which are around for traditions sake (I find them incredibly amusing anyway, your mileage may vary).

You know what I find amusing. When a person flies past you on the highway, driving recklassly. Then, a mile latter, their pulled over and getting a ticket.

It is always funny to see the police actually doing anything effectual.

MMMM, Hebrew National dogs are delicious. I'll never buy another brand again, not even Ballpark. They answer to a higher authority!

That actually reminds me of the last time we went to San Francisco. We were in a small town going about 40 in a 35, just 5 miles over the speed limit, and some fat chick in a late 80's Buick LeSabre is just riding my bumper to the point of worrying me and my wife, so when the road turns into a 4-lane she just whips into the other lane and blows by me and proceeds to extend her middle finger and show me her I.Q. At that point I said, and I quote, "where's a cop when you need one". No sooner had I said that than at the next intersection I see a black and white late model Ford Crown Victoria turn on its red-and-blues and chase after the fat chick. :jester: Smokey the Bear got 'er good. THAT. WAS. AWESOME! How come that can't happen more often!?

Part of the rules of kosher involve a line about you shouldn't "boil a kid in it's mother's milk," and this has been interpreted into the modern restriction of mixing meat and dairy. My family never kept kosher; I did for a while, but threw it over. I know how much Kendall hates religion and its adherents, but for those who follow it, the old-school cleanliness/health issues are a rationalization - the real reason for people to follow them is "because G-d said so and that's that."

Do you want to guess my response or should we just ignore each other on this?
