A flight control division would mean that there is always a clear chain of command rather then having to figure out who's in charge of a specific situation. It doesn't make a lot of sense to have two departments fighting over who's in charge of the fighters. Now, if I remember correctly, most modern day carriers have semi-independent command centers for operating the ship and the fighters, and Daystrom is a carrier so it would make sense to have a flight operations division.Thorin wrote:Controlling the fighter shuttles is protecting the ship.
Controlling the other shuttles on 'normal' activities is under operations. I don't see where a special operations department spin off would fit in. Everything is taken care of.

The way I had understood it was that tactical auxiliary craft - fighters - were under control of the tactical dept. Non-tactical craft - shuttles, probes, etc. - were under command of the ops dept. The position which Sharkey had held was flight deck officer, overseeing the operation of the bays, managing craft positioning, coordinating maintenance schedules with engineering, scheduling sorties, etc. He would probably have done this for both tactical craft and shuttles, for the sake of better coordination, but would accept shceduling/mission orders for such craft from tactical while reporting directly to ops.

There is no figuring out. Tactical controls the fighters. Operations controls the shuttles. There is no fighting.ChakatBlackstar wrote:

By all means, join operations and (if Mikey allows you to) be appointed as the shuttle co-ordinator as part of the operations department. But creating an entire department spin-off? Just not required - the role is already there.
And there's also a distinct lack of posting on the actual mission!

It's not required, but it could make things more convinent.Just not required - the role is already there.
I'd come up with something. Hopefully less disruptful then the last time I came up with something. And you're one to talk. You've posted once in, how many months was it?And there's also a distinct lack of posting on the actual mission!

If you want a limited roll and the person who's department it is under doesnt mind its up to you. But there are probably better places with more work to do.

What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

In what way? Everything is already taken care of by people and departments who specialise in what is required.ChakatBlackstar wrote: It's not required, but it could make things more convinent.
I'd gladly post again but I prefer not making one when only one other has posted, especially when that didn't advance the plot (not that there's anything wrong with that).I'd come up with something. Like what? Almost everything else that could be interesting is already taken. Unless you think I should be a counciler. "You dreamt what? You're crazy. Then you're left with a few choices if you want an 'interesting' job:
Join Ops under the command of Mikey and take control of the shuttles.
Join Tac under Thorin and take control of the fighters, presuming he hasn't already got someone for that job. This will require a reduction in rank.
Join Security under Monroe as one of his senior officers. This will also require a reduction in rank.
Those are the only ones that I can think of that might see any action at all on the ship. A new department simply isn't going to happen, for numerous reasons. Either take one of the above suggestions, or content yourself with a less interesting job.

Wouldn't the higher ranking officer take command of that department rather then take a reduction in rank?Rochey wrote:Then you're left with a few choices if you want an 'interesting' job:
