Considering how desperate and broken they were at the end of the Dominion War, I'd say it would take a quarter-century at most before they started petitioning to join the UFP. Of course, the offer would probably have been made to join before that long.
There is only one way of avoiding the war – that is the overthrow of this society. However, as we are too weak for this task, the war is inevitable. -L. Trotsky, 1939
I agree, the next seris should have Cardasia as part of the Federation. That could make for a few interesting story lines.Considering how desperate and broken they were at the end of the Dominion War, I'd say it would take a quarter-century at most before they started petitioning to join the UFP. But the Myquis werent a member race. The situation is more like if the goverment wants to build a road right through your house, it buys back the land and the objects and provides you with a new place to live.Look at the Maquis for example - they chose to leave the Federation, and the Feds went ballistic.

Honestly, I expected them to go farther into the future with the fifth series, but we got Enterprise instead. Not that I hate the show, I'm just very, very disappointed.mlsnoopy wrote:I agree, the next seris should have Cardasia as part of the Federation. That could make for a few interesting story lines.
The point is: what if that house was in your family for generations? What if you intended to raise your children there?mlsnoopy wrote:But the Myquis werent a member race. If you and your family had spent considerable effort and time to build a community, would you want to leave because some decree of a rarely-seen government said you must?

You pay me enough and I'd move to the bloody arctic. The Feds should have just bought them out.Tsukiyumi wrote:

That's describing a government using that land for domestic development - the Maquis situation involved the Feds handing over the planets to the Cardassians. Not a problem - as the Cpl says, compensate them for the relocation. They refused said relocation, and accepted that they would no longer be under Starfleet's protection.mlsnoopy wrote:But the Myquis werent a member race. The problem arises when the Feds then tried to insist that they still fell under Federation law - despite the fact that the Maquis were no longer Federation citizens, and their attacks were being launched from outside the Federation against non-Federation targets.

You don't have to move but anygoverment can with a court order take your land and gives you the price walue for it, but if you sell them the land you would get more. The point is: what if that house was in your family for generations? What if you intended to raise your children there?

Were that only colonis that were given to cardasians or all the colonis in the DMZ. What abaut Fed citizenzs that joined them, they were under fed law. And the fact that they were geting weapons from the federation.despite the fact that the Maquis were no longer Federation citizens
Some were. Were they using Federation as cover to strike acros the border. The badlans how were they devided betwen fereration and cardasia. The problem arises when the Feds then tried to insist that they still fell under Federation law

But don't you live in Canada? That's right next door to the arctic.Cpl Kendall wrote:You pay me enough and I'd move to the bloody arctic. The Feds should have just bought them out.Tsukiyumi wrote:

Yeah, kind of like trading beads and blankets for Manhattan, then forcibly taking it, right?mlsnoopy wrote:You don't have to move but anygoverment can with a court order take your land and gives you the price walue for it, but if you sell them the land you would get more...
Personally, if said land had been my family's home for generations, and someone tried to force me to sell it or give it up, I'd fight to the death using the dirtiest tactics known to man.

But the guy sitting in an office knowing that a new road on your land will be the best solution doesn't care. Who do you think will have to move you or the road.Personally, if said land had been my family's home for generations, and someone tried to force me to sell it or give it up, I'd fight to the death using the dirtiest tactics known to man.

That's why the guy in the office would catch a 7.62 in his face the first time he went to look out his window. Then, the guy they replace him with. Then, anyone they send to my land would meet nasty surprises, and all of their equipment would end up mysteriously destroyed. Forcing people off of their land is a bit of a sore point with me.mlsnoopy wrote:But the guy sitting in an office knowing that a new road on your land will be the best solution doesn't care.
