Pieces of a Mirror

Post by Meste17 »

So I'm a little confused as to the timeline of events in the Mirror Universe.

According to the novels Sorrows of Empire and Rise like Lions, Spock was able to keep his hold on the Empire all the way until 2295 when he was killed by the KCA (or Klingon-Cardassian Alliance), then the Terran Rebellion managed to overthrow and dissolve the KCA with the help of Memory Omega, a program thay Spock himself had instituted, and the Rebellion formed the Galactic Commonwealth in 2378. But yet, Discovery showed the ISS Enterprise in its 2257 configuration just like the USS Enterprise in SNW escaping into the primary universe, which is also confirmed by Prodigy further complicating matters saying that the Terran Empire was fully restored.

So my questions are as follows:

1. When did Spock die?
2. When did the Enterprise escape?
3. When did the Empire fall?
4. When was the Empire restored?

The novels are not canonical, to my knowledge. Therefore the events of the novels (which also often differ from author to author) do not always conform with what we see onscreen.

Canonically, there is no "Galactic Commonwealth", and if Prodigy confirms the restoration of the Terran Empire, that is canon, whereas Rise Like Lions, etc, are not.

There are many issues with canonical stuff anyway, but as I said, Novels are not officially canon to my knowledge (I believe some of the tie-in comics may be, but I don't really keep up with all what is and isn't these days).

I can't answer your questions, as I don't know if exact dates have ever been mentioned on screen.

Can't use novels. They are not cannon and typically don't fit what is shown on screen and there are alot of them out there.

The period between the episodes Mirror, Mirror and the first Mirror DS9 episode doesn't really give dates. We just know that Mirror Spock according to Mirror Kira caused the downfall of the Empire. Discovery definitely muddle this time frame though.

My assumption prior to the Discovery episode that the fall of the Empire happened around the turn of the 24th century give or take. Spock brought upon reforms and apparently made the Empire weak enough to be conquered. That would take decades.

Agreed, so this is why I would think that some of the novel Sorrows of Empire would have to be confirmed. Here is why:

1. You said yourself that Spock's reforms would take decades, and you did conjecture that it was the turn of the 24th century. According to the novel, the Empire was conquered by the KCA in 2295, and his reforms started in 2267, shortly after Mirror, Mirror.
2. You also said that Discovery muddled it up, and I agree, because in order for Spock to have his reforms be successful, he would actually HAVE to be there to ensure that they happened. Last time I checked, kind of hard to do if he was deceased.

1.) Novels don't count. They only work for head cannon purposes. Like they introduce an idea that doesn't contradict cannon and it's a good idea to you.
