Reuters reports that the cost hikes are as follows: subscribers with the Paramount+ and Showtime plan will see a $1 increase. For new customers of this plan, the pay bump will start Aug. 20, while for existing users, it will go into effect on Sept. 20. Meanwhile, for those who subscribe to the Paramount+ limited commercials plan (which is a legacy account and no longer available for new subscribers), your fees will also go up by $1, rising to $7.99, on Sept. 20. Finally, the Paramount+ Essential subscription, which also has limited ads, will jump by $2 on Aug. 20, with the new price being $7.99.
It’s worth noting that Paramount isn’t the only one committing this sin. Pretty much every streaming service—from Netflix to Hulu to Disney+ to (HBO) Max—has made it a point to raise their prices over the past few years. The only streaming service in my rotation that doesn’t seem to have gone up lately is the Criterion Channel, which is yet another reason to sign up for their service.

Read that there might be a Paramount/Max streaming merger coming soon...interesting when both platforms have recently raised their prices. I have Max as part of Directv satallite subscription, and Paramount+ as part of Showtime...so no clue how a merger will change things for my viewing...wait and see!

The streaming wars are just insane. Doesn't help that streaming sites doing original content are usually unprofitable.

Re: Paramount+ Is Hiking Subscription Prices Again
I had Paramount+ included in my Sky Stream package, but I cancelled the Sky Package as it just had nothing I was watching. I had Netflix included too, which I do use, so whilst I gave up Sky and Paramount+, I have a year sub to Disney which I have already used far more than either Sky or Paramount+.
I have a year (10 or so months now) to see how Disney fares, but I already save a considerable amount by making the switch I did, and Disney just has far more for me than Paramount+. So, knowing they are increasing their prices, I likely wouldn't even consider switching from either I currently use, and have no interest for a third subscription, as I don't watch enough in general for such an expense.
I have all of the Star Trek I like (TNG-era, plus the 10 Prime universe films) on DVD, so not missing anything AFAIC.

Re: Paramount+ Is Hiking Subscription Prices Again
LOL. To be fair, my primary motivation for trying Disney+ was to finally watch the majority of Star Wars (I've seen five of the films, but before I got Disney, but I want to watch Clone Wars and some of the other stuff). So far, I have started to watch three other series (none actually science fiction which is a rarity), and not even made a start with Star Wars.
But, I have a year, so I may get there. But I will likely renew it another year by then, as there is a fair bit on there of interest at the moment.
Paramount+ I think I watched three Star Trek films, and then gave up on the whole service, as I just had no interest in the stuff I don't already own from there.
I watched Picard on my brother's Amazon account, as they haven't yet stopped/charged non-housemates from sharing the service, like Netflix and others have done. Discovery I watched I think that was Netflix, but it came off whatever service it was on, and I had already given up by that point.
If they (Paramount+ or anyone) want to hike prices, they need to justify the cost for the viewers. And for me, they didn't.

Picard was decent but Strange New Worlds is the best of the new series. Discovery is now over and done with, thank dog.

Strange New Worlds is the best of the bunch, especially for a more TOS type experience.
