I suppose it was done in the interest of fairness.
As for the old vs. new, Edward James Olmos has said repeatedly that if you liked the original, don't watch the new one. I think he's tired of getting nasty letters.

I put 1980 in there simply to have the whole lot in there.
I could have guessed no one would vote for it.

Hope this isn't thread necromancy. The new series is so much better than the old that it makes the old series look like it was done by a pack of amatuers in comparison. I mean a casino planet and cowboy planet? Although I actually stopped watching season III halfway through when the Apollo-Starbuck angst got to be too much, here's hoping that season IV and the Razor telemovie return us to the previous seasons quality.
I've watched Galactica:1980 on the Space Channel and the less said about that abortion the better.

I must say, I sincerely prefer the new series.
The old was... well, typically a 1970's scifi movie and series... I always think it is ridiculous every time I have seen it. The new is more nuanced and... I guess it feels more real in a way, also.

The Dark Side is a pathway to many abilities some would consider unnatural.
