I love the ability of Star Trek to parallel their stories to reality, but this one seemed so damn preachy and formulaic, it had all the worst qualities of a TOS episode.
A few years back, I was making a list of episodes that would be better served with the "shades of gray" moral ambiguity we began to see in Deep Space Nine and is now prevalent in most popular TV shows. This was very high on that list, IIRC.
