I think the app has locations stored in the phone. You have to go to a location and point the camera at it, and the Pokemon monster shows up on the screen, like this :

You can then capture the monster and.... something. I dunno.

Sorta. There are set places you can go and pick up supplies in game.

To catch the Pokemon you walk around your town or where ever and they randomly spawn with in 20m of you. I think it's great as it seems to be getting so many people out and about. A little basic now but a neat Idea I'm sure they will expand on.

It's augmented reality. The game overlays the in-game happenings onto the real world. Imagine that the in-game stuff - the pokemon, the "gyms," etc. - were real but invisible, and your phone were the filter that allowed you to see and interact with that stuff.

... and the stupid people playing the game are staring at their phones and 100% NOT paying attention to where they are going... walking right into traffic and getting hit by cars. So the game has two bonus features, people are getting exercise and the herd is getting thinned a little, culling the stupid.

I love bitter people. No you don't need to walk into traffic, you can grab anything within 20m so there is no need to walk off the footpath or track. The only exception I know is a bug in the first week that caused some to literally spawn in water on the beach due to them registering the low tide point not high.

This game is one of the first iterations of augmented reality, is getting people outside and exercising, getting people socialising who sometimes struggle with it, and is bringing people together.

If you don't enjoy it personally that's 100% fine, but please please, go fuck yourself if you feel it necessary to take down something people enjoy that is in everyday a net positive for society.

I'm on Teaos' side with this. I'm near 100% sure there's stuff I like that would make some of you tilt your head and go, "Okay..." And I'm near 100% sure there's stuff you folks like that would get the same response from me. Yes, there are idiots playing Pokemon Go. They'd still be idiots without the game!

I got a lot of RL friends who love it, have gotten out, started socializing more and the whole nine yards. Hell, I'm more than half-tempted to download the thing. Even if I wasn't, I will not mock those who like it and play it.

Yeah, until I had 5 individuals walk into traffic in front of my (moving) vehicle because they were staring at their phones instead of what the fuck they were doing. So "go fuck myself?" No, fuck you for thinking people should get hit by vehicular traffic. And, BTW, stop trying to be so high and mighty about it - nobody is putting down the game, people are butting down the irresponsible numbnuts who can't use it responsibly.

I have seen that two people have been hit by cars in my area in the last two weeks. (stories on the news) Those are two that made the news. I am sure that there are hitss that didn't make the news. And I am sure that there are close calls that just missed getting hit. And these people are not socializing, they are walking around with their faces buried in their phone ignoring EVERYTHING around them.

"...but please please, go fuck yourself if you fell it necessary to" not want to accept there reality of, well, reality and prefer to lie to yourself in an augmented reality.

It has nothing to do with liking something that is different. It has to do with being a moron and not paying attention to what you are doing.

I think perhaps, as with all things, it should be tempered with a degree of common sense. The game is fantastically clever and gets lots of people going out, exercising and socialising when they otherwise wouldn't. It's also free, massive boon to the gaming community. I think it's brilliant.

However, it's simply yet another example of "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." (Einstein). The game's definitely not at fault, it's just the utter morons who have little care for their surroundings.

I suspect Teaos' comments were aimed at quite a lot of people older than myself that deride the game for what it is. "Back in my day we played outside, back in my day we didn't need all this fancy stuff to have fun." sort of comments which I see many many people older than myself spouting.
