Okay, McAvoy, just to make sure you're serious in asking, and no emoticon usually means that...

In most Columbo episodes, the criminal/killer would usually have some elaborate alibi that, on the surface, is airtight. Columbo would come in, ask some questions that on the surface didn't seem to matter but put him on the trail of the criminal. He'd the shuffle off, but stop, turn and say, "Oh, just one more question..." And what he'd ask would usually blow a large hole in the alibi.

And there's a story as to how that character trait came about...

Apparently, when the first Columbo episode was being written, the writer wrote a page of dialogue for an interview scene. Then he typed "Columbo says 'thank you very much, bye', and heads out through the door".

Then he realised that he'd forgotten to have Columbo ask something in his interview. But this was the day of the typewriter, and if he re-wrote the scene ending he'd have to re-type the entire page.

He couldn't be bothered, so he wrote "Columbo stops and turns around and says 'Oh, just one more thing...'"

Actually I know about that. Been watching the show recently to see certain patterns.

I was not aware of that. Thanks. :) That writer's little bit of cleverness paid off quite well.

The only picture ever taken of Concorde flying at Mach 2 (1,350 mph).

Image
Taken from an RAF Tornado fighter jet, which only rendezvoused with Concorde for 4 minutes over the Irish Sea: The Tornado was rapidly running out of fuel, struggling to keep up with Concorde at Mach 2

Octopuses are some of the most clever and most vicious predators in nature.

It is. Place your mouse over one of the dots on an area you think is moving. Notice how it doesn't move relative to the mouse pointer. Also scroll the window up and down. Notice how the movement seems different and also seems to change with the change of direction. How could a simple jpg file do that, given they:

1) Have no capability for animation.
2) Have no capability for being programmed.

That said it's a good illusion. This one looks line the lines bend, but every one of them is straight (put a rule or the edge of a piece of paper to them if you doubt it):

This one is very good. Look first at the top block and then change to the bottom one. Repeat. How does it know to move the one you are not looking at. The amazing mind reading pattern ;)
