I'd always thought of the monarchy as a silly cash sink for the UK.

But I think maybe I can see some value. Basically you have celebrities that actually care about the nation.


We rather lack those in the US, typically it's the opposite these days. I suppose we have politicians and they do Christmas addresses and the like, but it's hard to rise above the politics even if they wanted to (which generally they don't).
