I always wondered how much violence a Vulcan is capable off. Sarek easily defends himself against Babe, and apparently he is quite capable of killing. We've seen before that Spock knows how to use Vulcan weapons when he was willing to fight to the death for mating rights to his wife.
Chuck is right about the alien feel about this episode and it really shows how the Federation is a bunch of aliens working together but, just because you are in the Federation doesn't mean you're an automatic good guy. The Tellarites are exploiting some other culture, Sarek wants to protect the weak, add alcohol to that powder keg and we have violence.
