Hmm, wonder what it'd be called with DVD boxed sets. That's how I do my season splurges.

Same here, have never used Netflix. DVD's all the way.

I did that too. I used to collect whole series on DVDs. Nowadays I either Netflix or torrent.

Buying a whole series on DVD is expensive as well. Star Trek alone set me back $2,400 though not all at once. I was one of those who bought it when they first came out on DVD and cost $100 a season.

I'd still rather have the DVD's. I lost TNG due to a disaster in 2010, but I still have many to watch (all of B5 universe, Stargate SG-1, Firefly, BSG original, etc). Eventually, I hope to add DS9, TNG (again), Andromeda, and Stargate Atlantis to the collection, among others.

I don't know, it just doesn't feel the same to me. I watch documentaries online all the time, so not really sure what it is. Do you have to have an active internet connection for a netflix program? Never used it, just heard of it. If so, I've moved home so many times, I can never rely on having a stable active connection, so perhaps that is why.

When I bought TNG it was ~£70-80 a season. B5 was at ~£30-40 a season. I got all of SG-1 for £120, with both SG-1 films.

When I had Netflix I had a stable and strong internet connection which is why I also used torrents as well.

I also bought SG-, SG-A, Married with Children, Rome, X-Files, The Tudors, some of B5, House MD and nuBSG all on DVDs. Now the only series I buy is Game of Thrones on Blu Ray. So my personal collection was expensive.

But at one time, I had nearly 2 TB worth of full TV series on my computer. Not to mention nearly 600 GB worth of documentaries.

It's partially a psychological thing with me. I like having the physical copies in hand. It feels... more 'real' to me, which I know is kinda silly, but it's how it is for me.

I think that's pretty much the same with me. Though aside from my laptop they are my only form of luxury item.

"Fourthed" I also just like having them on the shelf. I'd rather physical books than an e-reader for the same reason.

I don't mind digital books or movies, but games I much prefer physical CDs. They tend to have less severe DRM that way (usually).

Physical CDs also mean if the company has a problem, you can easily reinstall from the CDs, instead of being SOL. You do have to keep a copy of the patches/upgrades/etc, but a physical copy allows me to keep it safer.

Getting all of Star Trek and a few other series did help me budget out my money, and thanks to having those series on DVD my mother and I only need basic cable now. ;)
