Well, Kirk's gone into physical fights more then Picard, but Picard has the bigger ship(I think he's compensating for something ). Then again Kirk's ship doesn't almost explode every other episode. Personally I go with Kirk because Picard is too dependent on his crew. Kirk can usually improvise something himself with occasional help from Spock or McCoy.

If it's a space battle we're talking about, than Picard's 24th Century E-D would wipe the floor with Kirk's 23rd century E-nil. On even footing, Kirk is the better commander in a fight, and Picard the better diplomat (and doesn't that just sum up the difference between TOS and TNG?)

Kirk.
He's more likely to fight dirty.

As the title says, its fist to fist.
I voted for Kirk. The man had the mojo, the music, the over sized chest and could handle a planet full of women all at the same time. I've got one woman of my own and she drives me between heaven and hell at the least every day or so. If there's a man who can take on a galaxy of women and live to tell about it then by all means, give him the crown.

In a fist fight, it's no contest. Kirk all the way.
He's younger.
He has a lot of experience in combat.
He's beaten up more people than Picard has had tea, Earl Grey, hot.
He actualy knows combat tactics.

Let's see
Fisticuffs: Kirk - he's half Picard's age, and has experience of hand-to-hand combat. Plus he's survived several brawls with Vulcans.
Ship-to-ship, equal vessels: Kirk - he's from the competent, military-focused era of Starfleet, not one of the TNG-era we're-not-a-military Stafleet.
Ship-to-ship, own vessels: Picard - while the GCS is a heap of junk, it's ten times the size of a Connie with firepower to match.

I'm all for Picard in many things, but the Kirk-ness factor again has to play a part. I guess it depends on who you like - the '90's, sensitive, "I empathize" guy; or the ol' skool, Cary Grant, "I'm gonna make you fall for me whether you want to or not" guy.
If you were wondering, Picard's the former while Jim is the latter.
