Nominate the coolest ships in sci fi
Was thinking of doing a poll, either on the forum or maybe a DITL poll, for the coolest ships in sci fi. 'Coolest' is obviousy a rather undefined term, so take it to mean whatever you like - most badass, most plausible, most beautiful, most original, most quirky. But we will need a giant list of people's favourite ships for poll options, and especially not just the obvious 'Big Franchise' ones.
Some of my favourites...
Space 1999 : Eagle transporter.
The Tardis.
Buck Rogers starfighter.
The Discovery from 2001 : A Space Odyssey.
What are your favourites?

Hell yes. I doubt it'll get many votes, but most definitely.GrahamKennedy wrote:Space 1999 : Eagle transporter.
Police box TARDIS or #6 upright organ TARDIS?GrahamKennedy wrote:The Tardis.
I wouldn't have thought of this, but it definitely looked like a starfighter should have.GrahamKennedy wrote:Buck Rogers starfighter.
Others:
the Cygnus from The Black Hole (1979.)
the Vally Forge from Silent Running.
the Gunstar from The Last Starfighter.

The Liberator gets my vote - if you thought the Enterprise D looked cushy, that thing had a couch on the Command Deck, inbetween the control stations and the view screen.

Always liked Babylon 5's Earth ships. Don't really feel like searching for pictures on a phone though.

Galactica, from the new BSG.
It wasnt pretty, wasnt new, wasnt powerful. But in the final episode its death touched me more than many a death of a actual character in any series.

What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

The scene where Galactica jumps into the atmosphere of New Caprica and launches its fighters whilst dropping from the sky was one of the coolest things ever.Teaos wrote:Galactica, from the new BSG.

I love that scene too even the music for it matched the tempo.kostmayer wrote:The scene where Galactica jumps into the atmosphere of New Caprica and launches its fighters whilst dropping from the sky was one of the coolest things ever.Teaos wrote:Galactica, from the new BSG.

Howabout the Motherships from V (the 1983 series).
The special effects haven't held up all that well but its still dam scary, and the opening scene when you first catch sight of a Mothership slowly floating through the sky is still chilling.
I dunno, theres something about the way they just hang there

Well, for me...
The Hammerhead starfighter from Space:Above and Beyond:
The X-wing from Star Wars. I know it's 'famous', but it's still dead awesome.
The Omega-class destroyer from Babylon five:
The starfury, natch. 8)
And, well... the refit Enterprise:
