Saw Star Trek Into Darkness a second time this afternoon but I'd like to get to Man of Steel at some point in the near future too.

Well, I went today to experience the CIA's latest form of "interrogation" my first electromyogram. Without getting into the details to protect the squeamish, it was determined that the cause of recent and debilitating back pain is a pinched lumbar nerve likely resulting from documented compression of my L5 disc. Only, hooray for me! Both generally-accepted methods of treatment are considered medical no-no's for diabetics.

Spine transplant?
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Can we assume you didn't reveal any secrets? I mean, we won't have to execute DITL Executive Thirteen, right?Mikey wrote:Well, I went today to experiencethe CIA's latest form of "interrogation"my first electromyogram. On a more serious note, that sucks. What options did they provide, aside from sucking it up? Was there even a palliative care option?

Well I just bounced this off my mother (who works as an RN). She suggests OTC pain meds (Aleve or Naproxen) combined with physical therapy. This has been very effective for her since she had sciatica a few years ago.

I'd consider it at this point.Teaos wrote:Spine transplant?
I didn't break, though I don't know what they'll find under the serial number I made up.Captain Picard's Hair wrote:Can we assume you didn't reveal any secrets? I mean, we won't have to execute DITL Executive Thirteen, right?
I currently have Vicodin (which helps a miniscule amount more than "nothing at all") and an electro-stim machine, which helps a bit. The two common treatment options are:Captain Picard's Hair wrote:What options did they provide, aside from sucking it up? Was there even a palliative care option?
a) high Rx doses of an NSAID, which I can't take because of my baseline kidney vulnerability thanks to the diabetes, and
b) oral or (preferably) injected steroids, which I can't take because of their tendency to send blood glucose levels through the roof.
I'll talk to my orthopedist again on Monday... perhaps decompression or another alternative therapy may be available.
The naproxen sodium helps take the edge off a little bit, but again I can't go nuts with it. The current pain is far more intense than the sciatica I've had on the other side for years.Captain Picard's Hair wrote: She suggests OTC pain meds (Aleve or Naproxen) combined with physical therapy. I considered the spinal tentacles, but I don't want the Kinect on all day and anyway, they're not backwards-compatible.Teaos wrote:Cause MS will install a Camera and require you to log into the internet once a day

This worked well for me when my muscles were twisting my spine, pinching nerves and squishing disks all over. My back looked like a backward S at the beginning; it's much better now after 6 months of electro-therapy combined with mechanized massage and adjustments. I'm unsure if your problem is similar, Mikey, but a similar treatment might work.Captain Picard's Hair wrote:...physical therapy...

I had PT the last time, and it was alright while my script lasted. This time is a bit different... I'd have to have some sort of therapy before I could even go to PT. I can barely walk, let alone do any sort of PT.

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
I signed up to do a run for charity and I sent an e-mail out to my office asking for donations. Of course someone asks me "what do I get in return?"
Nothing, that's why it's called a donation. Ugh.
