...damn it! Why did I find out about this at the start of the work day. Not surprising given how much he likes Trek.

Eh. If the worst thing he can say about it is that it references other Trek, then it's a win.
Take First Contact for example:
1) Zephraim Cochrane
2) The Borg are in it.
3) They're wearing the DS9 uniforms
4) Troi's "Would you three like to be alone?" line is almost verbatim from a TNG episode (can't remember which, but I just saw it recently)
5) Reg Barclay
6) Quantum torpedoes
7) "You're all astronauts... on some kind of Star Trek"
See? Star Trek is a self-referential franchise in general.

Yep, that was it. Point is, Star Trek movies always make some reference or another to the other shows and movies, so it's hardly a valid complaint, as funny as he may make it.IanKennedy wrote:I'm pretty sure it was "The Game", when she was eating chocolate.

There's a slight difference between some "you have to be a true Trek nerd to get it," references and just flat out reusing Khan and then find and replacing the death scene of TWoK.

Huge difference. Using a tribble or showing the NX-01 Enterprise model is one thing but ripping off perhaps the greatest scene in Trek is just lazy writing.Tyyr wrote:There's a slight difference between some "you have to be a true Trek nerd to get it," references and just flat out reusing Khan and then find and replacing the death scene of TWoK.

I really want to hate on that scene but... it worked. Yeah, they did rip off TWoK but for both characters it actually fit their character arcs perfectly. I still think it's lazy but the way they performed it salvaged the scene for me. Though Spock's "Khan" was just a flat out failure.

Not according to the stardate in "For The Uniform".Captain Seafort wrote:Nope - the DS9 lot were wearing FC uniforms.
(You're right though, the movie was first)

Based on stardates the DS9 crew aren't wearing FC uniforms and the FC crew aren't wearing DS9 uniforms. They're all wearing the new starfleet uniform.Tsukiyumi wrote:Not according to the stardate in "For The Uniform".
Given that we're talking about OOU references to other Trek, that's the one that matters. You're right though, the movie was first
