I have something of an issue with trying to cover up the plot holes when I get to Enterprise. It mostly sucks... and that puts me off a bit!

Here are 5 caps I made. It's worth noting that in the first two, the hull plating was actually *down* when the ship was fired upon - Archer orders hull plating polarized after they're hit, and Reed responds that it's down. So maybe all of the blue glows we see from weapons fire, whether hull plating is polarized at the time or not, is just from the SIF?

wow. I never noticed the blue effect before. That's impressive detail that I've never noticed before. That's kinda neat.

Well, let's see, I forget the ep name but I think it's Silent Enemy - they need to overload the phase cannons to fire on the aliens, and decide to technobabble the gravity plating so they can shunt the recoil to "structural integrity." They don't say *field* but I think it's a safe assumption.

Very helpful. Nice work, Butler. It is interesting to note that the effect seems to be similar either with or without the "polarization" in effect; however, since we can probably assume that SIF works on the same principles as shielding, the appearance of Cherenkov radiation certainly makes it seem that an SIF was in place. If that is the case, then the basic technology of field generation must exist; and from there it as an easy assumption that the defensive measures are actually a vestigial for of, or precursor to, "normal" shields.
