my internet connection at home isn't very fast...
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Yes, it does. The responsiveness if governed by the response time of the site, the download speed is seen in how fast you can download stuff once you get going. That said I've had ping times (ping like on a submarine, you send out a ping and wait for the echo to come back) that are also much better since the change over. Typical ping times to the US used to be 40-50ms but I've had some as quick as 9 on the new system.

Cool. I have no clue what it means, but cool!
The first number is how fast stuff comes down the wire once it's started, the second number is how fast stuff can be sent from your machine to the rest of the internet. The final number is the time it takes to send a ping signal from your machine to the server and back again (ping like in a submarine).

Verizon "FiOS." It's a fiber optic connection (literally Fiber Optic System). The great thing is, in addition to being (much) faster than the "standard" Time Warner Cable in the area (roughly 10 d/l, 0.5 u/l) FiOS it's cheaper. With the triple package (Internet, digital HDTV with three boxes and digital phone) the whole service comes to comfortably under $200 a month after all the fees and whatnot. (I'd have to check the bill to be more precise but Time Warner was comfortably north of $200 all totaled). We're happy we switched.

That's some nice hookup you've got there at work though! :)

Mine's Virgin's top of the line fibre optic. We're getting the new ridiculously fast system some point next year.

Okay, thanks. That makes sense to me.
