Agreed. I can certainly see it working for things like consumer electronics, media, etc. As to this:
Nope, sorry. AFAIC, you are heretofore officially "Elf, Argos, first class." Maybe if you work hard, you can one day work yourself up to pixie team leader.Reliant121 wrote:The elf thing isn't the title, it's just something a comedian said of us.

Reliant, this means at one point, someone (I suggest Harvey) is going to make a disparaging comment towards your Ent RP character referring to her as an "elf"Mikey wrote:Agreed. All the store managers have been bitching like crazy about the clothes lines but the big-knobs in power apparently don't want to pay attention.

I was tempted to make a bad joke about them usually going down to London and he'd therefore be safe in Yorkshire itself.

Oh, and also those pesky black Muslims who kept invading Spain and Italy during the medieval era.

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
Well to be frank it's a stupid policy. Just about every store I know that sells cloths has a changing room where you can try the clothes on. If you don't like them they do go back into stock and yes, people do buy clothes that multiple people have tried on. Happens every day. Personally I think it's a doomed venture, Argos selling clothes that is. Good even proper mail order catalogs allow you to order things, try them on and then return them if they don't fit or the style is wrong. I can't see any reason Argos cannot allow the same thing, other than the fact that they want to get as many people through the door as possible on any given day and they don't want to install a changing room. With that policy they aren't going to sell many clothes.Reliant121 wrote:Oh, I get this a lot. Mainly with customer views on clothes. For our American friends, Argos (my company) runs a system where you use a catalogue to select an item you want, go to a till with it's item number, pay for it and then the "Argos Elves (me)" scurry around a stockroom to get it for you. They can request a view too, to see before you buy. We've just started stocking clothes and people don't seem to understand that since the items are returned to stock if unwanted, we can't let them try clothes on. Nor do they understand the bit about "with all due respect, if you bought clothes in Debenhams that had already been worn by multiple people, you would be somewhat annoyed."
No matter how or why, I (not Argos) am still ridiculous and unhelpful. I'm young too, therefore I am stupid and lazy.

Yeah, one thing I always do after buying clothes is wash them all, even socks and underwear in packages. I accept others have tried them on and therefore deal by washing.

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
Yeah, I can understand the typical policies against trying on underwear, swimsuits without undergarments, etc. But if every other retailer allows you to try on clothes, and Argos doesn't, how many folks are going to buy clothes from Argos?
For that matter, how many people are going to a a bulk goods/media/electronics retailer to buy clothes?
