Mikey wins ten laugh points.
Now I'm wondering... is there any way to salvage this boondoggle of an episode?

Just put it in the "weird miscellany" drawer with "Catspaw" and let it be what it is.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:Now I'm wondering... is there any way to salvage this boondoggle of an episode?

DeForest Kelly really did do his best to seriously act this shit out.
Makes you wonder how many takes he stood there delivering these lines with all his heart only to have Shatner or Nimoy start cracking up. "Damn it Bill would you take this seriously for one damn take!"

I watch a lot of really bad movies - sic-fi original "Megashark Versus Crocasaurus" type stuff. I often wonder how an actor deals with being in something that is rubbish, and everyone involved knows it's rubbish. I guess there's two approaches - you can just do a minimal effort, get the paycheque and go, or you can give it your all no matter what. Kelly seems to have done the latter, and that's much to his credit.

Re: SF Debris: Spock's Brain
Yeah, but DeForest Kelly was smart enough to know he had a good thing going in Dr. McCoy. Combine natural talant with wanting to make every performance as good as possible, and there ya go.

Re: SF Debris: Spock's Brain
If I were to fix it. It would an advanced civilization with no dumb bimbos that needs a brain to work their master computer or something. The brains get fried over a short period of time, so they found Spock's who's brain is more.. durable. Kirk has a choice to take back his friend and destroy that civilization or leave Spock to be a slave to that culture.
Just an idea.

I think it should be a race of epicures who need Spock's brain to make an appetizer.

Hmm, perhaps. An advanced civilization with no gender divide. Well, not too advanced. Gotta get Spock's brain back somehow...

Also bear in mind that Kelly apparently loved doing Trek, so much so that his last words were to wish they could do another movie together.
