Yeah, you're right on the coast. Medical supplies all set? Canned stuff to eat? Sterno makes for an excellent alternative to charcoal grilling when power is out. Be sure to fully charge all your cell phones and other portable gizmos just before the storm comes in. Also, remember to fill all sinks, tubs and as many other containers with water as possible before the storm hits so that you can flush your toilets.

Well, since we've had kids we keep stocked first-aid kits, and wifey's out topping off the food and sundries now. I can light my gas range manually, so cooking will be OK, and we'll fill the tubs in the a.m.

Sweet. Did you cover the windows? Or, at least put big X's of tape across them? Don't want glass flying around, if it gets that bad.

She's been downgraded once to a Cat 2, and now the typical winds are predicted to be under 70 mph by the time she gets up here. I'm not directly on a waterway and we have the barrier islands and bay between us and the ocean, so storm surge won't be an issue either. The problem is how damned big the storm is - even though we won't be on a diameter, we're predicted to be within the bounds of the storm for at least 21 hours.

It'll be a tropical storm by the time she gets up north around here, and I'm not on a waterway and fairly inland to boot. Still got some supplies though.

No, we leave for NY this Sunday. It will be 2 1/2 weeks before we actually get there (14th Sep).Mikey wrote:Well, the patio furniture is all stowed or tied down and we're stocked up on water and batteries. Ian, are you sure you want to arrive in NYC on Sunday?

After a week off work, I'm back Tuesday to start a new job after a promotion! And about time too

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
The big storm... wasn't so big as feared. Despite coming close to a direct hit on the city, the storm seems to have weakened significantly. The storm arrived late last night, blew through the night but was already gone by late morning. There are plenty of fallen tree limbs all over the place but at least where I am no whole threes were uprooted; I'm not in a flood-prone region so I'm fine there. News reports indicate that there was flooding in some of the outer, low-lying regions and in some areas there were a few uprooted trees. I didn't lose power at all here but there were apparently widespread outages.

I live in Virginia Beach and I didn't even lose power. Though the dock flooded up to the parking lot.
I did drink alot of beer last night.

Basement flooding, so you guys may not see much of me or Nick for a few days. We've been fighting a loosing battle for 5 hours to keep it under the power outlets.
