Both really, I can't remember whether I really got into trains because I liked Thomas or whether I liked Thomas because I liked trains, but its because of both. My paternal Grandfather's quite, err, “Mechanical” for lack of a better term (He likes steam engines and traction engines, and does a lot of wood work.), so he's the one who taught me.Mikey wrote:Because of the Awdry series, or because of some other affinity for steam engines?Condan1993 wrote:Meh, I could do that since I was 6.Mikey wrote: but I certainly never learned to differentiate a 0-6-0 tank from a 2-6-2 tender.

My grandad is the same. Traditional British Biker (I'm told I'm inheriting his Royal Enfield), Loves trains, AVID plane spotter...

What, not a Norton?Reliant121 wrote:I'm told I'm inheriting his Royal Enfield
My wife's grandfather was a railroad bull and fireman (I think) in his youth, probably working on big things like the 4-6-6-4 Challengers and the Japanese-style Northerns. That was 60 years before I met him, though.

He wanted a Norton but money wasn't quite up to it. if he had his way, he'd have had a BSA like his first bike.

When I'm 17 I'm going to end up moving on to this or similar. Only a little 125cc but I like the style and its a good introduction to cruiser style bikes.

I watched Thomas the Tank Engine back when it was actual model sets and figures. Isn't it CGI nowadays?
Man, it's been a bit since I built a scale model of anything.

I used to have a scale model track that enveloped the shed. Dad often used it to transport tools to the outside space via one of the lines.

Yes, it is. It also sucks now.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:I watched Thomas the Tank Engine back when it was actual model sets and figures. Isn't it CGI nowadays?
I always wanted a Wallace & Gromit esque railway. It went all over their house and even delivered the mail.Reliant121 wrote:I used to have a scale model track that enveloped the shed. Dad often used it to transport tools to the outside space via one of the lines.

I was wondering about that. Is the Rapture supposed to be time-zone specific? I mean, a quick call to China this morning would have sorted everything out.

Also, does "Judgment Day" take into account the international date line? What if it's Judgment Day in the UK but it's still the day before over here?Mikey wrote:I was wondering about that. I suppose strictly speaking we need to wait till it's midnight in the last time zone to be absolutely certain...

Huh. I thought they were basing it on the Jewish day, which ends at sunset. In any event, while I'm slightly disappointed that nothing interesting happened, at least tomorrow's Grand Prix will be on as advertised.
