Both really, I can't remember whether I really got into trains because I liked Thomas or whether I liked Thomas because I liked trains, but its because of both. My paternal Grandfather's quite, err, “Mechanical” for lack of a better term (He likes steam engines and traction engines, and does a lot of wood work.), so he's the one who taught me.

My wife's grandfather was a railroad bull and fireman (I think) in his youth, probably working on big things like the 4-6-6-4 Challengers and the Japanese-style Northerns. That was 60 years before I met him, though.

When I'm 17 I'm going to end up moving on to this or similar. Only a little 125cc but I like the style and its a good introduction to cruiser style bikes.
