The Event being cancled shouldn't really be a shock. A big budget show like that has to do consistently above average to be worth continuing. The Event's ratings have been one long steady decline since the pilot. They crossed average around episode 8 and have been going farther down ever since.

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
So a bit ago me and the wife got a Wii, mostly to be able to use it for the Netflix watch it now feature in the tv, but we've played some of the Wii sports and it's been pretty fun. Well I got my first serious game for it from gamefly, Metroid Prime 3. Holy hell, the control set up is kicking my ass it is so different. I never realized how used I am to dual joysticks and shoulder triggers or mouse and keyboard for my video games. The Wiimote and nunchuck combo feels just so alien, and I really dislike the move and look controls. You not only aim by pointing the Wiimote, you turn and look with it too by pointing the targeting reticule to the edge of the screen, which is really screwy to use with the chuck's joystick to walk.
Maybe I just need to adjust, but my first impression is not favorable for this.

I pretty much sold my Wii for that reason. Its great for the sports/ party style games but if you want "serious" gaming look elsewhere. That said you can buy the classic SNES controller and its works great with the mario games.
But I can't throw, I throw like a geek!

You can buy a GameCube controller and use it, the controller is interchangeable with the GameCube and the Wii. By the way, I'm replying on my PS3.Lighthawk wrote:So a bit ago me and the wife got a Wii, mostly to be able to use it for the Netflix watch it now feature in the tv, but we've played some of the Wii sports and it's been pretty fun. Seriously not happy that somehow my spare scooter key and BOTH spare bikelock keys have miraculously walked out of their sealed draw and buried themselves in the Ether of my house. I really don't want to have to go explaining to parents about it, nor want to fork out for spare keys. fortunately, I don't think chinese made Peugeot's have computer code immobilizers on them so it'll be reasonably easy to get new ones cut. I just don't want to have to do it.

Lost keys generally follow very closely upon getting your license.

I'm on study leave/partial timetable next week while my parents are out so I'm going to gut the house (and tidy up the bomb disposal training facility that's the kitchen) and try and find them. I have a feeling I might have accidentally dropped them into one of my parent's "store of useless crap" draws but I can't check. If not then I'll just have to face the music.

Well, if the keys are in a junk drawer then they're gone forever. You may find them one day when looking for a pair of scissors, though.Reliant121 wrote:my parent's "store of useless crap" draws

In other news, my son's recent torrid love affair with Thomas the Tank Engine means that I can now identify most steam engines by format as well as by gauge.

Yeah, my boy went through that as well. He's not into Thomas so much but he loves his train sets.

I loved mine when I was a kid - H-O scale, even had the liquid smoke to add to the funnel - but I certainly never learned to differentiate a 0-6-0 tank from a 2-6-2 tender.Tyyr wrote:Yeah, my boy went through that as well. He's not into Thomas so much but he loves his train sets.

Hah!
We found them. Dad had pinched them and put them in the safe. logical, I admit, but it would have been nice to be told.

Because of the Awdry series, or because of some other affinity for steam engines?Condan1993 wrote:Meh, I could do that since I was 6.Mikey wrote: but I certainly never learned to differentiate a 0-6-0 tank from a 2-6-2 tender.
